I was critical of the Bolmaro + McDaniels draft picks.
I'm cool with being 50% on predictions.

I was kind of excited about him based on a fairly nice streak of club play last season, but then he really tailed off as the season wore on. The fact he was a total non-factor for his national team sort of sealed the deal to me that he isn't someone we should really count on for quality minutes.
My view of him following the same arc, Q. I'll be pleasantly surprised by anything good from him. How about Prince, Layman and Bolmaro for Simmons. How could Morey turn down that offer? :)
People were down on the pick because he had poor shooting stats. Then he goes out has very good shooting stats and wins most exciting ACB player and does all this playing on one of the best teams in Europe that has legit NBA players on it. Q said he tailed off he must meant he last 4 games that he struggled from the field shooting 3-16. Of course the previous 4 games he shot 22-38 from the field. The fact that he didn't have an impact on his national team (that was coached his future NBA assistant coach) is a legit concern but I'm still excited about this guy. Do I think he will have an impact this season? No (partly because I hope we stay somewhat healthy) but I also would not be shocked if he showed something if he gets some minutes. Again this is a guy that played limited minutes in the best competitive basketball situation outside of the NBA. He isn't having to adjust from playing a massive role to a sporadic one. He will have to adjust to the NBA game but his game might fit the NBA better than the international game.

From Mike Schmitz article talking about the 5 rookies that will outperform their draft position.
"It remains to be seen if Bolmaro will leave Barcelona to join the Timberwolves next season, but if he does he'll surely outperform his draft slot from 2020. I viewed Bolmaro as a fringe top-10 prospect in 2020 -- ahead of international prospects like Detroit's Killian Hayes -- and see him as an instant contributor on a Timberwolves team in dire need of his defensive energy (Minnesota ranked 28th in defensive rating last season) and offensive playmaking. The 21-year-old Argentinian is a 6-foot-7 combo guard who picks up 94 feet, delivers ambidextrous passes through tight windows and is a capable 3-point shooter after knocking down 44% of his triples in 71 Barcelona games last season.
So long as he's not asked to shoulder the scoring load in the half court, Bolmaro can impact winning on both ends, as I view him as an eventual NBA starter as his game evolves. Bolmaro is an interesting fit alongside a dynamic shot creator like Anthony Edwards, as his court vision and off-ball impact offer a balance between the two. If Bolmaro does come over, don't expect many DNPs, as he's ready to contribute immediately."

Mike Schmitz has been a very solid draft analyst and he loves Bolmaro this year. Dane Moore tweeted today saying he is hearing Bolmaro will sign this week

Yeah, I don't see Leandro Bolmaro being ready to contribute immediately nor do I see him being in the nightly rotation. Who does he replace? Maybe he can play some three and push Josh Okogie off the floor? That would be an exciting development. Much of it comes down to how legitimate Bolmaro's outside shot is.

The report from Schmitz is encouraging. I ate crow last season after seriously doubting Schmitz and Givony's lofty projections on Ball and Edwards. I thought both would struggle big-time with inefficient offense and terrible defense (I was partially right on Ant given his disastrous first half), but both ended the year as clear positives for their respective teams.
One of the areas I felt we needed to upgrade this offseason was the backup SF. Okogie is too one-dimensional and not impactful enough on defense to justify being in a regular NBA rotation. If Bolmaro can wrestle that spot away from Okogie, we'll be better for it. I'm still skeptical, but I'll gladly eat crow again!

...but if he needs the G-League, why not stay in a superior league in Spain and continue to develop there and then come over when we have more guys coming off the books and likely a better opportunity for him?

I think one values of the G-league for a guy like him is that it would help Bolmaro adjust to the NBA game. It's different than the international game. That said I kinda doubt he is coming over here to play 20-30 G-league games but a handful might not be a bad thing especially if he isn't getting any run early on.

I'm guessing he will get 0 minutes in the G-League. You don't come getting rotation minutes from the best team in Europe to the G-league. I think Bolmaro will surprise people and be an important bench piece for the Wolves. Like he was for Barcelona this year.
