It's probably worth mentioning the fit for Rubio and Utah. It's pretty good even if Hayward doesn't return but if he does it's even better. Remember the days of Rubio feeding Pek? Rubio to Gobert should be pretty fun. The Jazz have plenty of shooters and they play defense and they play an efficient brand of basketball. They don't really have a roster full of guys that will take the ball away from Rubio it makes plenty of sense for them to give him the ball and let him do his thing. Rubio could be their guy for a while or he could be a placeholder. They have a few young guys that could improve and be the guy down the road. I'm not sure I would have given up another first round pick to try and fix my PG spot but that pick is more valuable to the Wolves than it is to the Jazz because they have their own first rounder traded away.

I agree with the "keeping Rubio side" on this. I just don't see the upside, and we could have bought a pick for one year of hte salary difference.

What really puzzles me is that our defense is where we need the most improvement, and this goes against that.

Our young core is really dwindling under Thibs. Maybe he isn't the coach some believe he is, if he has to overhaul our roster.

Rubio was doing nothing for team defense. He's an overrated defender. He gets eaten alive by screens which is the most action we see as a team. He's very good in isolation, but he's not good off the ball and still gambles and commits dumb fouls. PG defense is one of the least important spots on the floor. The drop from Ricky to Teague is not going to mean much in the grander scheme. I get it. People like Ricky. Ricky was a middle of the road PG who no longer fit here as the ball dominant leader of this team. That's what Butler's for and Teague is a very good supporting piece to this team offensively as a very efficient scorer and playmaker.

If the young guys wanted to stay together they needed to give more than they did last year. There wasn't enough production for Thibs, Glen and Layden to look at that team and think running it back was going to be better than acquiring a top 15 player and recent all-star PG. I guess at the end of the day putting an actual winning team on the floor is gonna be like pulling teeth for half this board. So far we've added a top 15 player and a former all-star PG who's had significant playoff experience and experience on top level teams in the East and all we hear here is bitching and moaning about dumping some guys who got us to 31 wins last year like there was some kind of guarantee they would significantly improve and everything would be fine moving forward.
