The Wolves continue to stay out of the cellar in opponent eFG%...edging out the Kings .547 to .552.
It still boggles my mind that we are that bad after the additions of Butler and Gibson. That is such a key stat for us, and along with 3 point attempts, seems to transcend GMs and coaches.

I think it's pretty simple. Our starting 5 has an Opponent eFG of 51.3% which is quite passable (would be 12 or 13 in the league). Then everyone else comes in and we shit the bed. Not really mind boggling seeing how awful our other lineups have generally been this year.

It's not quite that straight forward. There are plenty of other minutes some subset of our starters play alongside others and the Opponent eFG% is terrible. For example, the 5-man unit of Butler-Gibson-Dieng-Wiggins-Teague has an opponent eFG% of 60%.
Unless you want to blame 100% of our defensive woes on Shabazz and Crawford, it's hard to be impressed with the job Thibs (and the players) have done on this front, including the starters.

Wolves allow one of the worst percentages at the rim and then teams have been hitting a high percentage on long 2's.

Statistically it is that straightforward. 60-70% of our minutes go to an average to good unit. The rest of the minutes go to a god awful defensive unit. That is where the numbers are coming from relative to the minutes. I wouldn't say 100% on Crawford and Bazz. I'd say about 75% on Crawford, Bazz, and Dieng and the other 25% spread across the other blended bench lineups. The lineup that you brought up hasn't been great but it has played a total of 46 minutes. That has very little impact statistically on our raw opponent eFG.
- Butler is the biggest mover, going into the second position behind Gibson. Kudos to Thibs for getting these two on board. They have been HUGE for us. We'd be a lottery team without them.
- KAT's defensive rating has improved over the last couple of weeks, which has finally gotten him into positive net rating territory. He still has the worst defensive rating of our starters.
- Tyus continues to do a solid job as either a backup or spot starter.
- Crawford is an absolute disaster defensively.
- Bjelly can't get back soon enough to bolster our bench, although he doesn't do much to fix the wing depth problem.

Why no mention of Wiggins? Clearly this is one of the positive stats for him that works in contrast to your theory that he hasn't improved any aspect of his game. This stat shows that good things happen when he's on the court, and unlike Towns he isn't as negatively impacted by Butler or Taj taking a seat. It's not just anecdotal, he is playing better team ball. Making the right first pass, filling the correct lanes on D, rotating to the right cover.

Yep, cheers to POBO Thibs for bringing in the Bulls' brothers, and boos to coach Thibs for not playing Tyus enough. Tyus' relative +/- compared to Teague's is even more impressive when you consider whom each of them is playing with...Teague's numbers should be MUCH better than Tyus's. Play the kid!
Crawford is a mystery to me. My impression of him when I go to games is that he handles the ball well and puts in a lot of effort on defense...but his numbers are terrible. I guess I still think he was a good pickup by Thibs, but his numbers need to improve.
Butler's impact on this team is more clear every game...he is a great addition.

I think Crawford summed it up best yesterday:
"My game honestly isn't for everybody. Like, I'm an acquired taste. I get it. But those fans really took to me and if you like me, you really like me and I'm thankful for the support."
He is either an inefficient chucker. Or, a jolt of energy off the bench. Simply depends whether he's making those shots or not.

Good point, abe. I was never a big fan of Crawford before he came here, because I thought he lacked a conscience. But you have to take him for what he is. His 35% career 3-point percentage consists of a lot of forced 1-8s combined with games that he wins for you by being ridiculously hot. What puzzles me is his ineffectiveness on defense, because I honestly don't see terrible defense when I go to games. He moves well, puts in the effort, understands help defense, and generally doesn't look like a Shabazz out there...but the results are horrible. I'm interested in what others who go to games (Lip?) see in his defense.
