Dieng and bazz to the wiz.
Mahinmi and meeks to the wolves.

Mahinmi gives us a tough presence in the paint and doesnt play soft. Meeks is a 3 pt shooter. We also get to shave a year off diengs deal.

Wiz get a younger back up and potential gortat replacement next year. As a starter, hes contract isnt a problem. I also think he'd be pretty good in pnr with wall.

This trade just makes me go, "Blegh."

It's not that it's necessarily poor value for Minnesota or that there isn't a reason for it, I guess, but it doesn't really do anything for anybody. And when that's the case, it's probably best to not even make the trade. Not worth the paperwork and travel reservations, if you know what I mean.

Absolutely not on Mahinmi. I like Meeks ok as a buyout pickup, but I can't imagine trading anything of value. I still think Dieng has value, bit to the Wolves and another team. He is not a salary dump guy imo.

I'll go a step further and say it would be poor value for the Wolves. If we're going to deal Gorgui, then we need to shoot higher and pursue a Bazemore or Lou Williams even if it means including our OKC 1st rounder. Personally, wouldn't trade the OKC pick so that probably means I wouldn't be able to get a Bazemore. But if we do deal Gorgui, then I'd rather give up the 1st rounder and get Bazemore than keep the first rounder and end up with Mahinmi at $16 million per year for two more years. Yuck!

I will take us to crazy-land. With Cavs attaching a JR Smith trade to their 1st round Nets pick....are there any scenarios we explore? I would expect the Nets pick to end up in 4-6 range next year. He has big number next season, but the last season of his deal is guarenteed only $3.8MM. There are some deals I would explore.

If you're just looking at this season, would anyone disagree that Lou Williams would be the biggest help we could find out there? I just think that 3 point weapon would make us a lot better.

Yeah, I'd still argue that Bazemore would give us a bigger lift and more versatility. He's not the flamethrower Lou Will has been this year, but he's a better two-way guy and doesn't need to be ball dominant to make an impact.

If you swap out Lou for Crawford in the rotation and give Jimmy some more minutes at the 3 I think it would be a much bigger impact than Bazemore. Lou's been an all-star this year. It would piss of Crawford, but I think you take the risk as long as it doesn't cost our first round pick. There's really just no point giving that up just to be a second round exit at best. Still need to keep the pipeline going while we win.

I wasn't writing the Wiz trade off at first because I heard Mahinmi was playing better on D. After looking atthe stats for him and Meeks...no it's a bad deal. Meeks has shot the ball bad from everywhere he has been bad. If you want more spacing Mahinmi doesn't provide that at all but Dieng does and he stays healthy. The Wiz would probably LOVE this deal.

Another article about the lack of money available this coming offseasons for FA. The Wolves could end up with a pretty good bench player for a good deal this offseason maybe a couple of them. We shouldn't add any significant salary for next year unless it's a really good player. It sucks because it would be nice to add a player this year but I think having a bit more patience and hope you find a decent buyout guy is smart.

Thanks for posting, Monster. I agree that patience is in order here. We're 4th in the West right now and, barring major injury, we have a legitimate shot at finishing 3rd. Yet, it's highly unlikely that this team get past the Warriors or even the Rockets this season. I'd like to add Bazemore or Lou to the Wolves this season, but I don't see a realistic trade scenario to make that happen without unecessarily jeopardizing our chances of championship contention over down the road. While I'm open to trading Gorgui for a wing of Bazemore's caliber, I'm reluctant to do that now without anyone else on the roster who can play center behind Taj and KAT. And I'm not convinced that Belly can be counted on to stay healthy to give us the depth we need at the PF position.

We'll go into the summer with the full MLE of around $8.5 million per year and the bi-annual exception we can use to shore up our bench. We we finish the season strong and win a playoff round, we should be viewed in the FA market as a potential championship contender. So it won't be as hard as it's been in the past to get good players here for the MLE given the lack of money available for FAs. We will also have OKC's first round pick along with our 2nd round pick and Gorgui as valuable trade assets. The best deals tend to be those on draft day.

So I'm convinced we should keep our powder dry and avoid making any major deals this month. Instead, maybe we can deal Bazz for Luke Babbit to give us more 3-point firepower off the bench. Or maybe the Hawks would be willing to deal Belinelli for Bazz and a future 2nd round pick. Those are the sorts of deals I'd be looking to make.
