While I want a different coach, I am not sure that will fix this mess. I have witnessed something that I just don't understand, and that is players that really don't care about winning. Wiggins is at the top of the list in this category. We need to bring back Greg Steimsma, and have him provide a little "old school" justice on these guys in practice. Maybe bring in Rip Torn and have him throw some wrenches at the guys. If I was coaching this team we would be practicing at 6 am tomorrow.

Mitchell, Saunders and Adelman all are/were fans of the long jumpshooting offense, and it has to go along with anyone associated with the county club coaching staff. The advantage of coach shopping right now is that they can use the rest of the season to work on things, rather than sucking out of the gate next season. We also would have less competition right now, which might be the biggest obstacle. Call scotty brooks and offer him the job. Let him recommend someone for POBO.

Good points, SJM. As for coaching, the critical decision is the one we make after the season, not any interim decision on a new head coach mid-season.

You've raised an interesting concern about whether our young guys have the necessary competitive fire. The only young guy who appears to lack the sort of competitive fire needed to be successful in the NBA is Wiggins, but I'm still hoping its in there and just needs to be coaxed out. Ricky has it and Towns appears to have it as well, but Ricky can't shoot and Towns is a baby. I also think Bazz and Dieng have it, but Bazz has very poor defensive instincts and slow lateral movement while Dieng lack strength. LaVine has it but has no idea how to effectively channel it. Players often look like they're lacking effort when they're not put in the best possible position to succeed. They look lazy because they are unsure of themselves. Ultimately they get demoralized and lose their confidence in a game that requires a high level of confidence. All of this ties back to the head coach and coaching staff.

This is how bad it's gotten. I was really tired of Adelman at the end of his stint, but to me those seem like the glory days right now from a coaching standpoint. I would never advocate Rick past this season, but what's happening right now has to stop. Our bright young players are getting worse by the week. Guys are going to want out of here if this doesn't turn around quickly.

At the end of the day this is a game. And even though it's already one of the best jobs in the world, you HAVE to have fun doing it. Otherwise you're not going to get anything out of your players. To me it looks like a chore to be playing basketball for the Wolves. Even Mr. "Put a smile on your face" Ricky Rubio looks like he'd rather be doing something else. Rick could put some fun back into the game for the rest of this season, and allow our players to build their games. It's all about the process and right now the process is stalled.

I see a lot of frustration. And I get it.

I see a lot of fingers pointed at Sam Mitchell. And I get that, too. He's been less than ideal, or adequate even, especially as an X and O guy. But, the players shouldn't go unscathed here.

And get this... you ready for this... Here it is... WHAT ABOUT THE MENTORS?

I kid. A bit. But we heard so much about the terrific mentorship when things were going well. Isn't it only fair to mention it when things are bad? Personally, I think it's overrated in general...

The players are young. They're going to go through spells of promising play and spells of crappiness. Sam Mitchell isn't the answer... but right now, I think it's safe to wonder if some of the players are in the same boat. I don't care how young they are, they shouldn't be without blame for the current malaise the Wolves are in.

Despite the "WE" on the warmup t-shirts, the only guys in our rotation that grasp team ball are Ricky, KG, Prince and KAT. The rest of the guys are freelancers.

To be fair, Towns is still learning and has a lot to learn...

So after getting home at 2am, after stopping by a club for a couple brews, I am still frustrated by what I saw last nite. I was sitting next to 3 Wolves fans who walked out halfway thru the fourth, muttering to themselves about energy and heart. The Sixers fans behind me loved the fact that Sammich benched everyone, they were scared that Wiggins would go off and take over the game. One commented that the Wolves offense should be scrapped and just run a motion style offense. We discussed the fact that the Wolves still have to get to a spot on the floor to actually get going and that takes upwards of 15 sec to initiate. Philly didn't have that problem, they were in their "offense" right away.

How many teams have started out 8-8 and then gone 4-17 or whatever it is with essentially the same personnel?

1?

That is what is so frustrating about this. We've seen many collapses, but usually an injury catalyzed the process, followed by more injuries.

This collapse is happening despite having one of the healthiest rosters in years. Argh!

Explanation? Here may be some reasons---(1) Flip's death had them coming out the gate playing over their head; (2) Easy Schedule to begin the year: (3) The Wolves were worst in the league last year and team's weren't geared up to take them real seriously and after we knocked off some good teams on the road, that changed.

To be fair, prior to the season, I thought a 4 - 17 stretch was far more likely than an 8 - 8 stretch. Maybe it can be chalked up to a hot start in a relatively small sample size?
