I used to live in So Cal in Newport Beach and saw Kobe almost on a weekly basis. The issue is, if I were a rookie, I would want nothing to do with a Los Angeles or a New York. The spotlight, the Turdy people who have no manners like this TMZ dude, add the nightlife and temptations...what a tough situation to throw any 18-20 year old into. He better have a really really solid crew around them if so.

Zgoda with some thoughts on Towns from Coach Cal and he teases us with some info he will hold back till it's closer to the draft.
There is a couple interesting comments Cal makes.
KAT - "Coach, I'm good in Minnesota, I'm fine there."
I know this in nothing but I would really appreciate it if one of these guys would say, "Man, with Wiggins there we could run the league one day" or something to that effect. Instead it's always "yeah, I'll play there" or "I'm just happy to be in the league".
Just greedy on my part but I would totally geek out if Towns or Okafor said something like this
They are probably coaches not to look like they are openly campaigning for one place or another. The whole national media narrative that Towns or Okafor don't want to be here is crap. Who wouldn't want to team up with Wiggins?

Put yourself in these Draft Picks shoes for a minute. They might be all geeked up themselves about playing for The Wolves maybe they are dying to play with Wiggins but they don't know if that's what will happen. I'd say exactly what they are saying I will be happy to play whoever takes me its a privilege etc. some of us are nervous about who we take these young men have to be nervous and excited too.

Of course you and TRKO are right and these guys are getting coached up by agents and PR gurus and are hedging their bets against alienating teams.
But the Wolves have the first pick so it's not like it would be offensive to drop a Wiggins reference and I'm not saying sell out for the Wolves hardcore or anything.

Towns did talk briefly about how cool it would be to have a mentor like KG and all that, so he did throw a little Wolves shoutout. And I think I remember someone asking him about his relationship with Wiggins in which he of course talked about rooming with him and how they're friends. Nothing too blatant or too serious because he could wind up in LA, but I think it's clear that he'd be happy here.

I must not have communicated my point very well. What if Okafor was THRILLED at the idea of playing with Wiggins and basically says so and the Wolves pick Towns the Lakers take Russell and he ends up at #3 to the Sixers? That would be disappointing TO HIM if he was psyched about playing with Wiggins and got stuck in Sixers land where they already have a couple bigs. I'm not saying that will happen but they don't know for sure what will happen I wouldn't let myself get too excited about specifics for that reason of uncertainty.

I get you. I never said they had to have their hearts set on anything or that they should get their hopes up on one place. I wouldn't ever abdicate wearing your heart on your sleeve when your future is not in your hands. Towns said he would love to play with a legend like Kobe, all I'm saying is say the same thing about Wiggins.
Again I'm only half serious about this, it's just a greedy thing on my part that would get me even more psyched about these guys.

What guy? The interviewer. Karl was as classy as could be. He didn't take the interviewer's bait. Said he just wants to play in the NBA and doesn't care where. He has said he just wants to be drafted. Classic understatement. And he is very deferential to the NBA players--gave props to Kobe just as he had given props to KG earlier.

I believe that was sarcasm Team Ricky. That or he was talking about the punk trying to get him to say bad things about going to Minnesota.

Talked to a former Timberwolves player today. Said we should draft Townes and that it's not even close between him and Okafor in his mind. But he added that he's convinced the Wolves will take Okafor based on what he's heard from his contacts inside the organization.
