That being said it was the right move but for the wrong guy. This would have been an acceptable price for AJ McCarron. For Sam Bradford it's a terrible reach. He's simply never been a good quarterback. He had the 3rd worst QBR in the league last year. I'm happy we didn't just thorw the year away and got something better than Hill. But this will prove to be a mistake over time. Sam is just too ordinary and too injury prone to give up these assets.
To clarify Cool my point was that just because you don't make a big trade like this the season was over. I wasn't against making a deal completely just that the world would end if it didn't happen. :) I probably wasn't clear on that.
I'm not fully on board with this move because it was a lot to give up but I've always liked Bradford as a solid NFL QB and the guy has talent to be more than that. Remember the lack of talent he had catching balls with the Rams a lot of his time there. It was pretty bad outside of Amendola.
Good QB's are good regardless of WR talent. Rodgers was still good throwing to Cobb and a bunch of grocery baggers last year. Brady has rarely had good WR's. Wilson has made guys like Doug Baldwin look like a borderline WR1. Bradford is just a mediocre QB who has never raised the level of play of his teams.
Like I said I thought he was solid and still had potential to be more. I never said he was good or elite like the guys you just mentioned.
In Bradford's defense he's been in the NFL for 7 years this year and will now be on his 6th Offensive Coordinator. We can look at that one of two ways, he's never had stability in terms of coaching and/or system which means he been in a perpetual state of confusion. The other way would be to say Bradford is the reason none of those Offensive Coordinators stuck around for more than two years which for the Turner haters means we'll finally have a new OC next year.
In all seriousness, or at least as serious as I'm personally capable of, the combination of recurring injuries along with almost annual changing of offensive systems, and not exactly first rate skill position teammates leaves quite a bit of room for those who may wish to look on the bright side. He has the arm to run a vertical offense even if he's largely been in systems that didn't make that a focus. It also makes for a very interesting situation next year and beyond if against the odds Bradford finally, both puts it all together and stays healthy.
Like sands through the hourglass, as the Vikings turn...
Besides, how hard can it be to learn Turner's offense?
1st Down: AD run for 2 yards.
2nd Down AD run for 3 yards.
3rd Down 4 yard pass.
4th Down Punt.
And on those occasions when Turner tries to catch the D off guard:
1st Down AD run for 2 yards.
2nd Down Sack for 7 yard loss.
3rd Down McKinnon run for 14 yards.
4th Down Punt.
If TheSP hadn't been a one sport basketball scrub he could have run that offense!
I'm from St Louis, so I've seen a bunch of Bradford. You are getting a very talented QB. Before we took Sam in 2010 we won a grand total of 6 games the previous 3 years total. He was basically getting drafted by an expansion team. During his time year his HCs were Spags and Fisher, two ultra conservative coaches who played not to lose. His best receivers were Danny Amendola, Brandon Gibson, and Austin Pettis. So to sum it up, we had a very talented QB and surrounded him with brutal talent and poor offensive coaching. I fear 8 days before the season isn't enough time, but if he plays to his potential you would have upgraded your QB position over Bridgewater. I'm pulling for Sam and he is a perfect fit for Norv Turner. Those two should have been paired up years ago.

Compare the stats of Amendola and Brandon Gibson with and without Bradford. Their numbers are much better with Sam than without. Those were his best two guys by far. Good QBs can get more out of their guys, but when Danny Amendola and Brandon Gibson are the best receivers you've ever had, then there is issues.
Also on that subject look at Brady's recent numbers with and without Gronk. Look at Rodgers numbers in games last year without his top guys. Supporting cast is huge. My favorite QB being a St Louis guy was Warner. He had Bruce and Holt along with Bolden and Fitzgerald as his two duos. Supporting cast matters greatly. Sam has never had a league average one. Always poor ones.
I like the trade, I think TKO laid it out he has never had a great supporting cast around him. Also everyone is complaining about the 1st and it does seem like a lot but we have 8 draft picks next year including 3 third round picks (I believe) So we still have the flexibility to move around in the draft. I am happy we are not punting the season away, we have championship talent. Also it is not like teddy was all that great last year.
I also like the trade. Many here have written about the talent Sam has had in his past. Not very good, (below league average), yet he completed 65% last year. Completion percentage is key in Turner's offense.
Similar completion rate as Teddy, but an increase of 64 yards per game and takes half as many sacks as Teddy. And double the completions beyond 40 yards. Put 8 in the box and let's see what can happen.
They paid a steep price but Im happy they did. Of the three major sports in Minnesota the Vikings are the only organization that's not afraid to take the big chances. It's no coincidence they're also the only franchise with any kind of success the last decade . No resting on laurels.
If the Oline can keep Bradford upright I think he can have a big year in Turners offense. Maybe 25 tds 3800 yds is possible?
AJ McCarron was not going to move the needle. Overpayment? Perhaps a little bit, but not outrageous. We had to reach here and take a big chance, ala Favre in 2009. I like this move.

Agree. Compare what Speilman has done with the wasted decade of McHale. The last big deal the Twins made that was of this magnitude was getting Jack Morris. I don't follow hockey. But the other franchises have been minor league operations compared to the Vikes.

Lets see how a real coach/GM works for Wolves.
The Wild did get Parise and Suter in the same off season which was the biggest story in hockey at the time.
