Dang. The official steal the win from the Wolves, and turn around and gift a win to the Thunder. This little blip of slipping out of first place will forever be know as the Referee Blunder!
Officially in 2nd tonight

Not so fast!!! Portland is filing a protest with the league office. If successful, the game will be replayed from point of controversy -- Portland's ball up 1 with around 16 seconds left in the game. Which means OKC could lose after all...
Of course, I seriously doubt the protest will be successful. The league will say "thems the breaks". Portland just feels the need to highlight the injustice. Otherwise, why wouldn't the Wolves file a protest on the missed foul call against the Hornets at the end of the game?

I think it was inevitable that the Wolves would fall behind Denver in the standings and highly likely they’d fall behind OKC. My best guess is that the Wolves will end the season in 4th place behind Denver, OKC and the Clippers. My fear is that the Wolves will slip below the Pelicans into 5th. That’s as low as I see the Wolves falling. I can also see them ending up in third behind Denver and either OKC or this Clippers.

That’s a pretty pessimistic take, Lip. One I would wager against!
The Wolves have one of the weaker remaining schedules. And while this 2-game losing streak leaves a bad taste in our mouths, I have a difficult time concluding we will continue to see unexpected losses.

Yeah, I have to agree with Tim here...half a season is a pretty good sample size, and we have been the top team in the West most of that time period. The lesson we learned from the past two games is what I've thought the entire season...this is Mike Conley's team. We are the best in the West when he plays, and little more than a play-in team when he doesn't. He's a winner, and he has some nice complementary pieces in KAT, Ant, Jaden and the Tower. The Wolves have only lost one game to a sub-.500 team all season with Conley playing (Atlanta), and we have a lot of games left this season against sub.500 teams. If Bite Bite stays healthy, we will finish in first in the Western Conference.
Edit: Dane Moore said Conley is now questionable in DC with an illness...another immature game coming?

This is also just the 2nd time the Wolves lost to someone under .500 (ATL, 2nd game of season).
What about the other top contenders?
BOS: 2
MIL: 4
OKC: 3
PHI: 4
DEN: 4
LeoS (writer for Caniushoops)
I also get that the way we loss is concerning but just for perspective
Further Kek, Chris Hine just reported that Conley was fighting through food poisoning in the Atlanta game...no wonder we fell apart in the second half!
So, the Timberwolves have not lost all season to a sub .500 team when we had a healthy Conley on the court. Bodes very well for the rest of the season with so many bad teams on our schedule.

The Wolves are going to need to figure out how to win and close games when Daddy isn't there to protect them. It's kinda pathetic honestly given the sheer number of $ invested in KAT and Ant.

KAT was fouled on that last play.
The officials had been calling it all night for softer contact on KAT's drive to the hoops. Yet when it really counted they didn't want to call it. A case of the officials hoping the other official would make the call, and no one ends up making the call.
If that was Embiid it definitely gets called a foul.....
Two minute report will tell us it was a foul, but that doesn't change the result.
At the end of day you should put a team like the Hornets away, not count on the last play of the game to win or lose it. I didn't see a bulk of the 4th quarter until the last 2 minutes so not sure what went horribly wrong tonight.
As I predicted:
"The NBA released their 2 Minute Report for last night’s Hornets-Timberwolves. there were 10 incorrect calls in the final 2 minutes, 7 in favor of Charlotte and 3 for Minnesota. In its Last 2 minute report, NBA says Karl-Anthony Towns was fouled late in regulation of MIN’s loss to CHA. Report says referees missed the call "
Reading the report it concludes both Rozier and Black fouled KAT on his drive to the hoop with 5 secs remaining during shooting motion.

10 errors has to be a record, right?
It's like they got every call wrong over the final 120 or so seconds.

Yes I was just thinking that. Inexcusable really. In the report it also mentioned that LaMello got away with a double dribble with 19 secs remaining. Botched call, after botched call.
Let's hope the officials take some lenience on the Wolves after this.
