Meh, I was ready to move on from him next season

So I looked up the new CBA and there is all kinds of interesting stuff in there. Minimum salaries are going up Basically 20%. Maybe they would have tried going with Blasingame but at some point based on who they put in the PS they seemed like they were all in on Ham. Seems like a pretty reasonable thing to do considering They probably have some reason to look at winning now.
Note PS squad will he expanding and 2 players will he eligible to be active for the game. 2 more players overall can be active for the game and 1 has to be an olineman.

Great. We get even more prime time melt downs to watch. Kind of a weird time to extend him after letting some key defensive pieces go. This is looking like another 7-9 Kirk Cousins special year and then you could have just got out. I would have setup this year to go big and if you fail to be able to tear it down.

Anthony Harris gets the franchise tag.

Makes sense. That's what Jeff Diamond predicted as a very likely option weeks ago. I wonder if they get a longer term deal done. I think this was the sorta worst case scenario for them. They knew they could get some cap space and they could franchise him.

It certainly helps. I think we can focus the draft on CB, Ol, and DL. I don't think we trade Diggs unless we get a great offer at this point.

Isn't the draft receiver heavy? I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's gone before the draft.

It is, but when is the last time a rookie WR made a huge difference. It usually takes them 3 years to develop. It really seems we are in win-now mode yet. I would be fine trading him if we get a 1st and 3rd back or 2nd, 3rd, & 4th.

The reality is if the Vikings really sucked and tore things down they really only gave Cousins about 1 more year of money than he had before. He will get paid next season and another 10 million in signing bonus in 2020 but remember he is saving them 10 million in cap space this year. He also doesn't have a no trade clause in this deal so he could get traded and a team might be interested since the Vikings would still be paying some of his salary. I think this new deal only being 2 years means the Vikings will look at some options to groom a young QB. I'm not saying a 1st round pick or 2nd or 3rd round pick this year but maybe next season that could change for sure. Only 2 years more to get this done while opening up cap space seems like a win for the Vikings. I thought they may have to add 3 years to get it done and for more money per year. Is Cousins worth this money? I think so in terms of the market. The reality is there might be 10 QBs in the league worth more than 30 million a year then there is guys like Cousins that are legit starters and better than the not good starters top backup types that you don't want as your starter. I'm a Cousins fan and I think he is worth more like 25 million but the market is higher than that plus salaries are going to go up significantly assuming the NFL is able to play a season in 2020.
