It would be great to have that problem. I like Garver but would rather have Astudillo as a backup. Oddly we used to have nothing at catcher for depth and now we look pretty good.

You know things are not good when you have onion type articles popping up about your baseball team.

Gibson got back on track last night but the pen wasn't up to the task. It sucks that Austin has had his back problems I was wondering why Gimenez was playing the last couple games and it was raising my blood pressure...and then I saw Austin has been out. Sigh what a season. Meanwhile Grossman is looking to finish strong. He might be playing for his job either here or somewhere.

A couple things.
1. People seemed to be enjoying themselves. They Brad Radke thing kinda makes me laugh because I was thinking he actually struggled somewhat in the 1st inning and so i looked it up and his career ERA in the 1st inning was over 5. Maybe that was part of the joke. Anyway it was kinda funny.
2. A lot of Twins fans were asking why Bobby Wilson was playing this year and then a playoff level team that's won a championship recently wanted him...maybe the Twins aren't so dumb after all.
3. No comments yet on this forum about the Buxton situation. Personally I don't think it's that big of a deal. If Buxton becomes a star they are gonna pay him plenty of money before this service time becomes an issue. If he isn't that good...he shouldn't be worrying about that. Also I don't buy the comments from his agent he is completely healthy especially after touring how Byron playing through all this pain and injuries. Good for him for wanting to tough things out (very admirable) but sometimes that's not the right thing to do.

My great grandfather love to complain about Radke. He he used to say the three things you could count in life Death, Taxes and Brad Radke giving up a first inning home run lol.
2. I still don't understand Bobby Wilson at all and probably never will. But for heavens sakes Drew Butera has been in the league 11 years with a career .201 average so those type of catchers do stick for a long time.
3. I just want a new Coaching regime and for them to let Buxton figure out Buxton. I've already voiced my concerns of how Buxton has been handled in the past.

Part of why Butera is still in the league is that catchers suck at the plate holding the bat. People wanted the Twins to upgrade Bobby Wilson. Who were they gonna get without giving up legit prospects that was actually a worthwhile upgrade? Idk they signed Cameron Rupp who based on his previous stats should have been at least been able to hit. At AAA he couldn't hit. I'm 76 PA he struck out 32 times. The Mariners signed him after he was released and he had been more successful in AAA for them but not awe inspiring that's for sure.
Personally I think Buxton would have got on track at some point this year if he actually was healthy. How many weeks this season was he actually healthy? 5? That's not good. I've heard both Lavine and Falvey say they are doing basically what you are asking...letting him figure it out. All I want from Buxton is to stay healthy and then just ball. I'll take whatever we get out of that.

Jester forgive me if you have covered this but what is your take on Jake Cave?

Can't remember if I said or not but he reminds me a lot of Jason Kubel. Hopefully he can keep progressing like Kubel did. I do think he's better defensively than Kubel.
Jake Cave Age 25
222 ABs .261 Avg 10 HRs 33 RBIs .781 OPS
Jason Kubel age 25
446 ABs .272 Avg 13 HRs 65 RBIs .785 OPS

Honestly if there's a positive to Buxton injurises is that they are fluke injuries that aren't reoccurring. Like a broken toe or finger. He just seems to have more bad luck than actually being injury prone if that makes sense.

It makes sense and I agree but every year it's something and it's concerning and certainly has not helped his development at the plate.
