Teddy is on a one year deal. That seems like a steep price.

Certainly a bit steep, but Brees days are numbered. The Saints can kick the tires for a year and if they have confidence in both his knee and ability then Teddy would be in probably the best place for him. That's a solid team with an excellent coach and a recent history of staying competitive. What other QB needy team after this season could offer him a better chance at success?

If it doesn't work out the Saints know they'll be drafting a QB this offseason. I think it's a good move for both parties.

Packers got a 6th round pick for Hundley. To me if I'm the Jets why would I trade Teddy unless you stepped up with at least a 3rd round pick? If Teddy is actually healthy and he looked good in preseason....he'll he might be a starting level QB even than has value as a backup. Eagles won a super bowl becaus rthey had a high level backup. It's kinda a lot to give up but Teddy has value. Also the people that said the Saints could have signed him in FA...probably not. With the Jets Teddy had some chance of starting. The Saints no with Bress signing what is basically a bargain contract. Some people think the Jets should have waited longer till someone got desperate after an injury. To me it seems like a fair deal except Teddy doesn't have a clear path to getting an opportunity unless Brees gets injured. Being in Sean Payton's system for a year ain't a bad thing though.

I just don't like the Saints and now our boy Teddy is there. :-( I was fine with a cancer like Adrian Peterson going there though.

From an outsider, it looks like an expensive insurance policy. Why would you consider him an option for longterm future when multiple teams have already moved on from him? It just seems like giving up a 3rd and using up $6M of you remaining 10M in salary cap is to steep of a price.

I wouldn't expect the multiple team stigma to stick to Teddy. He was an unknown for the Vikings to move on and the Jets had a first round pick ready to start. The Saints are a super bowl contender who don't want to end up like GB and have their season tank because the starter goes down. A good backup is important again if you are trying to contend as demonstrated last year by us and the Eagles. If Teddy sits on the bench this whole year, who's paying him next offseason? He'd be looking at another 5 million dollar flyer deal. That's something the Saints could match if they believed him to be their QB of the future.

True enough. My understanding is the Saints wanted him this offseason and he didn't see a path to start with them so looked elsewhere. I was kind of pulling for him to go to the Dolphins.

I agree about Teddy not having any negative vibes about being on various teams. As for getting paid next offseason...I think even if Teddy never takes a snap for the Saints I think being in Sean Payton's system and learning from Brees for a year will be seen as a positive for Teddy to a number of teams. He will also be another whole year away from when he returned from being injured. My guess is that the Saints will try and get him in for a few snaps if there is a blowout etc. There certainly could be teams looking for a legit QB next offseason. Teddy might be the guy to go after and turns 26 in November so he will be fairly young still and someonewhat unproven (hasn't shown he sucks yet) so the potential argument could be there. The team that is willing to make him their starter might get him for less money. the Jets gave him 6 million this year and if next year he is proven to be healthy that number could go up depending on the demand/need for QBs. Its going to be an interesting story to follow. I'm not suggesting he gets a massive deal or anything but if healthy he probably gets a short term deal for pretty decent money unless the need for Qbs just isn't there...which seems unlikely. There is value for the Saints in getting him in now though.
