The defense gets all the news, but we lost Rieff and Rudolph on offense. It will be interesting to see how the replacements do. I am hearing all kinds of noise about a 3-4 or 3-man front nickel defense. I am not sure we
have the LB depth to pull it off, but we do have some DE's that might work as OLBs in that type of front.

Is there any indication that Zimmer and the team are wanting to do the 3-4 or people just coming up with ideas based on signing Richardson? I'm not buying the idea that they will be doing a 3-4.

I thought I read they have been doing a little of it this offseason and past years for that matter. Honestly, I think they might be doing it to let the offense see different fronts.

I think your theory makes a lot of sense. Weatherly I guess is more of a 3-4 guy but I doubt that was why they added him. It seems like the players they drafted were more pass rushers than hybrid LBs in a 3-4 scheme. The Vikings have moved various players inside and out with some success so that's probably some of what might make people wonder about the 3-4 as well.

Here is one of the places I heard about the 3-4. I like this guys youtube as he is on top of things and entertaining, but very optimistic and wouldn't take his stances as gospel.

This guy is a Bengals fan, but he puts together good content in an entertaining way.

Good read on DL options with Richardson.

I think of him mostly as a passing down subtype that is used to keep all 3 fresh in middle. I can see all 3 playing in short-yardage situations. It will be interesting to see how many snaps each of them play. (barring injury)

Tom Johnson was pretty good in that pass rush DT role.

Tom Johnson was that guy they wanted to always replace but found it couldn't.

Tom Johnson had a nice career. The Vikings haven't really developed a DT since Shamar Stephen becoming a solid but unspectacular late round pick that turned into a legit fringe starter. To be fair to them Shariff Floyd if he didn't have that surgery gone bad may have been that guy they needed as he just turned 30 last month. Still there is nothing wrong with realizing you don't have the right guy and then signing them in FA. It will be interesting to see if they hit on some FAs especially Xavier woods who is young enough they could resign him and stay around for quite a while.
