Draft prospects - Who do we want?
Re: Draft prospects - Who do we want?
I want to add something about pace of play for the Wolves. I think Rubio is a push the pace type of PG but he isnt pushing the pace to score so maybe that was the point about him. The Wolves have the guys that could make them be able to grind things out with post play from Wiggins Bazz and hopefully one Big. I still think with guys like Bazz and Wiggins you want to get out and try and get them easy buckets. People always say Pek holds you back but the realty is that he doesn't when healthy. He isn't a pure post up guy more opportunistic and he runs the floor hard.
Okafor idk how he would fit. Both he and Towns we are really projecting what they could be and they are in all reality unfinished projects. I saw on Twitter the other day that Okafor came to some workout looking in terrific shape so maybe he drops 15 lbs and looks even better idk. I didn't like his lack of phyicality when I watched him and I like Towns skillset but how much will he improve and how good is he really going to be defensively? Let's be honest here even if you have some doubts on Okafor like me damn the Wolves need a uber talented big right now a heck of a lot more than a perimeter player. I think the cold reality is we should probably hope to get one of these 2 guys. I'm not saying drafting on need but if we could be in position to get one of these 2 guys maybe we could actually have something right happen for us in the lottery for once.

Dunno if Ford has any credibility, but he thinks the Wolves list is 1. Towns, 2. Okafor, 3. Russell, and 4. Porzingis.

Fraschilla says Wolves will focus on Mudiay, Russell and Porzingis if they dont get top 2.

Re: Draft prospects - Who do we want?
Russell's size and length seem adequate to play the 2. I was a little worried about whether he had the size to be a legit starting 2 in this league, but I think today's combine results helped his cause.
He isn't very tall for a 2-guard (just over 6'3 without shoes), but he has a long wingspan, big hands, and is 193 lbs. He is similar to SGs like Bradley Beal, Victor Oladipo, and Ben McLemore in terms of his size and length, so I think he's fine as a 2.
He had a great season, can shoot the hell out of the ball, and can rebound and pass too. It would be tough to pass him up at #3 or #4 if he's available.

Man if this team takes Okafor with Towns still on the board, I'm taking next year off.

Think that is a little harsh, I like Towns more but to say you will take a year off because we take a player who some scouts have said is the best offensive post player since Duncan is a little crazy IMO

Wolfson retweeted this which is kinda interesting.
@SHowardCooper: One GM, asked about Porzingis, a PF from Latvia: "He could go two. He's that good. Nobody says anything bad about him."

On the Sports Over Beers podcast Doogie was talking like Okafor is the No.1 option for the Wolves and they would gladly take him at one or two. He also said that Porzingis could go at three over Russel. Then again this is Doogie we are talking about and it doesn't help his credibility that Zgoda is also talking this way

Per Chad Ford:
"Look for the Minnesota Timberwolves to try and package picks 31 and 36 to move up into the mid-to-late first round. They are clearly trying to land workouts players ranked in the high teens and 20s on our Board."

The Wolves have assets that could get them a chance to move up. They have those 2nds, a guy like Bud a young underachiever in Bennett plus NB and even a guy like Hamilton could have a little bit of value as he can contribute now and has a non-guaranteed deal. DX was tweeting yesterday they aren't sure there is much difference between something like #20 and the top of the 2nd round and it will be interesting to see how it shakes out.
