We just got Thad Young for pennies on the dollar. Flip is a winner.
Agree. I was not a fan of flips off season last season but I have to give him major props for this off season. Well done flip.
I'll rather have bennett over miami's pick(likely non lottery).
We are shaping up to be an athletic run and gun team with rubio running the show. Its a work in progress but should be fun to watch.

Well said. But it might be fair to say that Kahn was playing chess, but was just terrible at it. He would give up his queen to protect his pawns. :)

I'd say Kahn was playing Chutes and Ladders. No actually he was playing Candyland which is why he liked Skittles Beasely so much. Lol

Wiggins, Bennett and Young is an incredible haul for Love who was gonna walk in free agency next season. Well done Flip.
Call me stupid but I actually think this team is no worse than last season. I'm gonna say we go for 40 - 42 again - 10th seed in another ridiculously lopsided western conference.
I also can't wait to see the back of Barea, but there is some sense in keeping him. He is an expiring and the competition Mo William's will bring as the prefered back up point may bring the best out of Barea. He will have to earn his minutes. By February's trade deadline he could be a handy chip to have and his value can't get much lower than it already is. My concern is that he hinders LeVine's development.

I think Barea needs to be gone. Especially If hes not guaranteed time on the court this year and finds himself riding the pine. I could see him pouting and bringing a negative attitude into the locker room which is the last thing this squad full of youngers needs.

But advanced and other stats do tell a story, so let's compare Young's career numbers with Williams' numbers while he was here.
TS% Young-53.9% Williams-51.3%
Rebounding rate Young-10.5% Williams-11.6%
D rating Young-106 Williams-107
Per-36 stats:
Points Young-16.4 Williams-16.2
Rebounds Young- 6.3 Williams-7.4
Assists Young-1.6 Williams-.9
Steals Young- 1.6 Williams-.8
Blocks Young- .5 Williams- .7
Turnovers Young-1.7 Williams-1.9
There are the numbers. Remarkably even...I doubt that anyone can find a better comp using just production than Derrick Williams. And again, I am NOT saying he is DW...just that their stats are similar.
So, but all means Flip...go out and get Young because he is a good guy who we will enjoy cheering for. But please don't give up too much for him...hopefully just surplus wings. But after looking at his numbers and how they stack up against other PF's, I can't understand giving up either Bennett or a first rounder for him.
And let's not kid ourselves on this board. Young is a hard worker, but he is what he is, and his production will always rank in the bottom quartile.
Okay, maybe not the results you wanted to see. But I put a lot of work into this on a gorgeous day here in SoCal. Can I get a thank you :) ?

Okay, I'm feeling feisty today after watching a replay of that fine Viking effort this morning, so I'll take the bait, Cam.
You can always nominate any post for most head-scratching (I'm about to return the favor by calling out your outlier vote in another thread to give up Bennett for Young as "most head-scratching" :) ), but since I basically make two main points in my post, you have to tell us which one is the head-scratching part. Which of these two assertions do you disagree with:
1) The stats I cited for Young and Williams are similar (e.g. 53.9 is relatively close to 51.3, or 16.4 is relatively close to 16.2)
2) Despite the similarity in their stats, they are not similar players (although both could be described as athletic, undersized PF's). Thad Young works much harder and I much prefer his game.
I don't know, but neither of those statements seems too preposterous to me. Thad was a fan favorite in Philly because of his consistent hustle and good guy attitude, and he seems like the kind of guy you want to have on your team. But ultimately you win with production, and I wanted the board to see Thad's numbers in a different light.
My main point was that I really didn't want Flip to give up too much (Bennett) for Young, and eventually, he didn't give up too much (a low first rounder plus garbage)
Now excuse me while I mosey over to another thread, and ask you to justify your vote :) .

He's playing the way that I hoped he would when we acquired him. I saw this player in Philadelphia. A guy that is very skilled in the paint in terms of finding ways to finish. He's floating around the painted area making himself available for dishes. And for whatever reason, his FT% has spiked up out of no where. The almost-four APG are impressive too. Speaking of which, he should have had one more last night (vs MIA). Mo Williams drove baseline, dished to Thad Young at the free throw line who then caught the ball in his left hand and fired a pinpoint dart to Gorgui Dieng under the basket... who fumbled the ball miserably.
I'm only expecting this type of play to continue, if not get better. Having Rubio, Pekovic and Martin back has opened everything up for him.

Similarly, Thad's been very good and it's easy to believe that having Pekovic back ignited this stretch. Pek returned nine games ago. Having that low-post presence and a big body to help on the glass gets underrated at times, but the big guy is a positive impact player.
