Re: Wolves@Spurs - GDT
Welp. This thread has turned into a mess. It's definitely a make or miss sport and D-Lo missed too many at the end, but putting the blame on him for this loss is laughable.
You just can't let teams go on big runs as a head coach and do nothing or very little to stop it. Minnesota led 97 to 81 with 10:21 left in the fourth quarter. They didn't score their next two points until 6:39 was left in the fourth. This is while the Spurs went on an 18-2 run to tie the game at 99 with 4:50 left to go.
That means the Wolves didn't score any points for nearly four minutes of game time while giving up a plethora of buckets on the other end. Well, I wonder why. Minnesota played Rubio, Nowell, Layman, McDaniels, and Vanderbilt until 7:45 when Saunders started bringing back the starters. I'm sorry, but what is that lineup? Who is supposed to put the ball in the hoop with that group? I guess we'll never know. But Saunders consistently does this. He routinely puts lineups on the floor that don't make any sense or have proven not to work.
Oh, and let's not forget that with 2:37 left in the game Minnesota tried to hack-a-Poeltl without subbing in their best rebounders to secure the basketball. Rubio, Russell, Beasley, Edwards, and Reid were on the floor. The whole point in that strategy is to foul a poor free throw shooter and assume they miss. Why not substitute accordingly? San Antonio grabs the offensive rebound (duh) and DeRozan hits a turnaround jumper to extend their lead. Again, comedy.

There's obviously plenty of blame to go around, but your all star guard should be able to stop these types of runs or at least pass the ball and get the hell out of the way.

Sure, that's fair. Going 2-8 from the field in the fourth quarter isn't a recipe for success for D-Lo. I'd agree with that.
My feeling, however, is that the Wolves shouldn't have even been in a close game let alone trailing in the fourth quarter. For me, the head coach's main responsibility is to put players in positions to succeed. What happened during tonight's game was an absolute failure on his part in that regard.

Everyone blaming Dlo? sure he was garbage, and the hero ball act was a joke. At least when Jimmy did it he was a tad bit more effective. This is all on Saunders though. What in the hell is that man doing?. How in the fukk do you let that happen? In what world is having Dlo and Ricky closing out a game a good idea?. Did Ant touch the ball at all when he came back in the game?. He waited to long to get the bench out of there which was "lead" by Rubio and he still kept him out there to end the game lol.
If anybody should've been given the green light to play hero ball it was Beasley, who's been the most reliable player we've had this year. Hell Ant should've gotten the go ahead to do that with the way he's played lately. I can't believe he let this happen play after play. Did he think having Dlo take all the shots was the way to go? Did he give them different instructions and the players (Dlo) just ignore him? Either he's a dumbass or a pushover.
Welcome back Yosi. Glad to see you return when were at our worst.
Thanks man, it's a perpetual state with this franchise. But sometimes they astound even my low expectations.
You're alive!

Maybe the best thing to do is to keep Towns out for an extended period. Not for the team. Not for the fans.
But Rosas and Saunders might need that excuse for as long as possible.

This is the only franchise in the world where losing is job security.

Sort of. It's a tried-and-true tactic for new unsuccessful regimes in bad situations. It's just that the Wolves don't really ever escape it.
Re: Wolves@Spurs - GDT
Just looked this up. Wolves have 39 2-man lineups that have played over 100 minutes this year together the 38th best 2 man combo this year is Ricky and Dlo getting outscored by 25.1 pts per 100 possessions (not including tonight's game)
