Playing most of last season at the age of 23 in his 2nd year in the NBA Saric started over 70 games for a 52 win team and was 4th in scoring and his rebounding...he was next to Embiid who pulled down 11 and Simmons who pulled down 8 a game. This guy could be a legit nba starter and could be a pretty nice player. He isn't just some kinda interesting dude. He could be part of the solution. I bet the Pels wish they had that first round pick they gave up to get that Mirotic guy...eh probably not.

Saric is a huge defensive liability so he should fit right in in that regard. He is Tolliver who can score inside more than him but doesnt shoot it as well as tolliver. There is a reason that philly was able to dump him. I was looking for hope in the trade. He has been a net negative 2 of his 3 years. There is no hope here.

Butler was by far our best player on our team. We get Saric who is basically a younger version of anthony tolliver with worse shooting and a couple extra rebs a game and a 29 year old covington who is solid but is what he is. We did this trade with thibs in mind instead of our future in mind. Terrible trade.

You quite clearly haven't watched much basketball outside of the Wolves if that's what you think of Saric.

Towns and Wiggins have almost every tool available. Wiggins handle and Towns strength are the two areas they lack, but outside of that you should be able to put whatever you want around them. It's on them to make this team a winner. Teague has been on a number 1 seed in the East. Covington and Saric were two very important pieces on a top 4 team in the East. Saric is a modern NBA 4 who can switch on defense. A Wiggins/Covington/Saric trio should absolutely be a good defensive trio on the perimeter.

Okogie
Wiggins
Saric
Towns

That's a good young core. Get a PG in the draft or Free Agency (cough...Kemba ...cough). At the end of the day 2 guys have max deals and 2 guys should be able to carry a team of good role players to the playoffs. Also we have Saric's RFA rights so he's not leaving after next year.

If the team knew that jimmy was getting traded before the kings game (and it seems like they did), and that was kats response?

Awesome. Best game of the year for him..

We also needed a defensive athletic big next to KAT. We got neither and no first round pick. Honestly don't know why this was approved by taylor.

Absolutely right, SJM. The fit is terrible. And there's little upside.

How is the fit terrible?!?

Everyone clamored for the ball to be in the hands of KAT (especially) and Wiggins (to see what we paid a max for, which we absolutely need to find out) - this trade allows that. Two guys who absolutely don't need the ball to contribute.

Who would want the starting PF for a 52 win team that's 24 years old and costs less than 6 million combined for this season and next. But yes a draft pick from a team that's gonna be really good (better than our own pick) would be the answer. Why not add some players that might actually win basketball games and do so for not a whole lot of money?

Yeah this got weird real quick. From enthusiasm to depressing negative views on the trade. Is it cause we're Wolves fans? Do we just enjoy bitchin like Gibson? Idk. When you trade the star you never get equal value back. We got some good guys though and that's fine with me

The posts on this board right now are insane.

Everyone wanted a deal, and wanted a good wing + whatever.

Well, we got a good wing (locked in) + a good forward + a pick, and people are still up in arms.

Most here loved the deal to begin with - I hated it. I preferred sticking to the rebuilt and building something like the process.

But it happened. Then Butler decided to tie our hands, forcing an inevitable trade. We all knew it; So did every other organization.

We should be ecstatic for this return. It's much more than addition by subtraction.

Yeah, I'm confused by the "poor fit" argument as well, but ultimately what you think of this haul comes down to your opinion of Dario Saric.

I think Saric is one of the best young players that Minnesota could have acquired in any Jimmy Butler trade, and the Wolves got a 1st-Team All-Defense wing in addition to him. I too would have liked to get a first-round pick as the third piece of this trade, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. Minnesota also didn't take back any bad contracts, which is a huge win for the Wolves FO.

I think Saric is really going to open a lot of eyes in Minnesota. "The Homie" -- as he was referred to by Philadelphia faithful -- is a well-rounded big that can basically do it all at a legitimate 6'10, 225 lbs.

In his sophomore season last year, he averaged 14.6 PPG (45.3 FG%, 39.3 3P%, 86.0 FT%), 6.7 RPG, 2.6 APG, and buried 2.0 3P/G in 29.6 MPG. That is hefty production across the board as the 3rd/4th/5th option most nights.

And if you weren't already excited by the above, I'll leave you with the following so you are truly aware of how unique Saric is right now in the league.

Only three players averaged 14.0+ PPG, 6.0+ RPG, 2.5+ APG, and 2.0+ 3P/G in 2017-18. One of them was a 23-year old Dario Saric. The other two were Kevin Durant (29) and DeMarcus Cousins (27). He's not necessarily a unicorn, but he's a damn good young player.
