Wemby is 22, Ant was 22 when we made our first WCF. If San Antonio beats us, I don't think they can beat OKC or even make it a series, but we shall see. Wemby as Shaq said is what you would get if you built the perfect big man in a lab. We are losing these games, mainly because of Wemby, how many times have we driven to the basket and than rushed a shot as soon as they saw Wemby coming at them. Easy mid range and floaters that we can hit with our eyes closed, but Wemby alters them. Success isn't linear, a setback isn't the end of the world to team building. With who was considered the best player in the world Denver didn't make the playoffs until Joker was 24. Made it to the 2nd round, than the WCF, the 2nd round, lost in the first round, than won a championship with joker at 28 years old. Our path is going to be a lot tougher now with legitimate great young teams in OKC and San Antonio looking like they can become dynasties, but the league can pivot quickly.
I should be clear, I don't disagree at all. Just post game blues and honestly feeling pretty disappointed in Edwards. Which could all be forgotten by Friday night
I'd put at least 50% of his issues in the playoffs on his injuries. He doesn't have his normal elevation on his jump shot, he seems to have trouble dribbling when he needs to move his knees to a lower position to cut past defenders. He is paying a lot of attention to how he is landing, to make sure he doesn't get hurt. He's not a point guard, the team needs to figure that out by now and let Ayo and TSJ bring the ball up. In the off season Ant needs to work on playing with pace, his passing, and re-commit to defense.
Again, I should be clear, I don't disagree at all. I was set myself for this let down, I was riding pretty high after game 4 and was ready for a legendary entry into the halls of basketball history by Edwards.
Writing my own fanfic about how he's gonna do a Giannis and come back from injury to win a championship and then being disappointed is well.... My own fault lol

LOL, what are ya, a rookie? Any life long fan of Minnesota sports understands that a fan base cannot be set up for disappointment without first offering a small dose of hopium!
I'll never believe in them until they finally win a championship, and even then I'll question wether my meds are affecting my perception of reality!
Go Wolves, and take the Wild with you into your summer vacation!

Not many are gonna agree with this, but I'm completely done with Rudy in a Wolves uniform.
Thanks for the great Denver series, but when he's useless he's completely useless.
I understand the Wemby is a hard and borderline impossible cover for him but getting bitched on every rebound or layup is pathetic. Be strong and finish with force, grab rebounds with TWO fucking hands, be useful even if you're outmatched.
I'm not blaming Rudy for the loss since that list has about 10 people on it, but I'm just sick of theoretical advantages he provides running up against reality year after year
I agree with you. I waffled on Rudy this year, i started out ripping him, then moved to admiration, and now I'm back to he's just not that good. Don't throw any useless stats at me. The fact is we need him to at least hold his own against Wemby, after all he's the 4 time defensive player of the year. And now we can't even play him when Wemby's on the floor? And don't even get me started on the offensive end. He's just been God awful in this series.

I don't have many problems with Gobert's defense. Wembanyama is simply too big and skilled. I don't think his defense is why the Wolves can't play him.
But he is playing himself off the floor offensively. His limitations and foibles catching the ball and finishing enables Wemby to camp out closer to the basket without worry.

I'm sorry, but relative to expectation, he has been awful on defense.
Fox has put him in a blender several times and he simply hasn't been that much of a deterrent on their other guards.
Wembanyhama has a 60% EFG matched up on Rudy and over the course of the playoffs Rudy has -0.1 on/off defensive rating and -5.5 on/off net rating.
He's been useless since we beat Denver and if we somehow get past SA, he'll be useless against OKC.
I'm done justifying his spot on the roster if this team legitimately wants to win a championship

Ps- teams are shooting slightly more often at the rim when he's on the floor and +4.5 FG% at the rim
What is he here for again?

I'd argue for small sample size here.
And he's going up vs. Wemby and a very good team. I'm not saying he's been good... only that "Gobert's defense is why the Wolves are facing elimination" isn't near the top of my list. I mean Fox is a slithery quick guard who's scorched the Wolves in the past. I believe he's hit 50+ previously. He's shooting 38% in the series.

But that's the problem!
It was against Dallas
It was against OKC
And it is now
He is so asymmetrical, and forces your team to be so asymmetrical that he
has to be at least good on defense or you're cooked
That's the story of his whole career going back to Utah, that once you run into elite competition you are foiled by the small margins of your shrunken ceiling.
He's never "the reason" his teams lose on the court, but he forces roster sacrifices that foil your ceiling and ultimately leave you short of expectations.
I've had no problem with Rudy during his time here, the 23' run was some of the most fun I've had and he was at the center of it, but I'm now convinced--- especially at this stage of his career --- that he is fools gold for building a championship roster.
