Mavs and Heat have pulled out of Brunson sweepstakes, so he's pretty much a done deal to the Knicks.

In terms of role, isn't PJ Tucker a great fit on almost any team? Plays great D against multiple positions, knocks down corner 3s at about 40%, has a high motor and lives for the playoffs. Where does that not fit?

He is old as dirt (12 years younger than me), so I can see being wary of signing him for anything more than a year, maybe 2 if you put some performance guarantees in the second year. I do suspect we'd be unlikely to get him. And I'd be wary about the terms of the contract. But I don't think fit is the problem with Tucker.

I never though Tucker would land here and personally I would not want to offer him more than 2 years AT MOST. Remember the good times last offseason when people said he wouldn't get paid? Yeah right he could have Colten more last year but settled for over 6 million from Miami and this year he is cashing in on a deal over 10 million a year.

FWIW the Celtics have a trade exception for 17 million from the Fournier trade last year.

Malik Beasley, Naz Reid, and a future first-round pick for Jakob Poeltl? San Antonio already started tearing it down with the Dejounte Murray deal and Poeltl was discussed in trade talks as recent as last year's trade deadline.

Poeltl turns 27 in October and is signed through 2022-23 before becoming a free agent. Minnesota would also open up another roster spot and save $8.0-million against the cap for next season. That could potentially come in handy should the Wolves need to make a meaningful addition mid-season.

I don't know if this is my favorite idea, but Poeltl is rock solid on both ends of the court and it would absolutely make the Timberwolves better. Something like this would round out an impressive off-season.

1: D'Angelo Russell / Patrick Beverley / Jordan McLaughlin
2: Anthony Edwards / Jaylen Nowell / Wendell Moore Jr.
3: Jaden McDaniels / Taurean Prince / Leandro Bolmaro
4: Karl-Anthony Towns / Kyle Anderson / Jarred Vanderbilt
5: Jakob Poeltl / Walker Kessler

Cam I've been pondering Poetl also. First I think he is obviously a good player but how good. He is better than say Holmes but how does he compare to Capela? Just to be clear I would like to acquire him. The question is how much to give up for a guy that's only signed to one year? What would he cost on his next contract? Is there a chance of extending him and would he be interested in doing that if that's something we could do via the CBA? I just don't think I can give up a future first round pick for potentially 1 year of Poetl. It would make sense that he is a available.

Do you guys think the Wolves front office would seriously make a run at Gobert? It would be a bold move no doubt and immediately catapult us into a potentially top 5 defensive unit assuming that DLO/Beasley are outgoing pieces. But man, that contract......And for someone that would likely be on the bench to close games since KAT would undoubtedly play Center and the opposing team would go 5-out small ball.

You've captured the Gobert dilemma well, Q. To answer your initial question, I think the answer is yes. I mentioned in another thread that we can't understate the difference in life philosophy between the Taylor ownership group and the new group. Take a look at Lore's life profile- both in his personal life and his business life. Unlike Glen, he is a "live on the edge, go big or go home" kind of guy. And a Gobert deal fits that profile.

But it would be a very risky deal too, so I'm firmly in the "I don't know" camp. Love the deal because it allows us to move on from DLo/Beas and instantly transforms us into an elite defensive team, but wary of the contract.

Good question, Q. If we believe what we've read recently in the media, the Wolves are at least "interesting in" acquiring Gobert. I have a hard time believing that's entirely inaccurate or fabricated. So I have to assume the answer to your question is yes. I'd like to believe the reports are inaccurate because I think it would be nuts for the Wolves to trade for him considering the assets we'd likely have to give up, the length and cost of his contract, his age and his limitations that you identified. Perhaps Connelly simply made a phone call to the Jazz out of curiosity.
