Why not embrace it?

It goes back to the point of being able to simply get KG back into the fold during the offseason. After all, he has the rest of his life to coach, mentor, and own a team.

But at this point, what's done is done. Let's hope he can instill some defensive IQ and habits into this team. That is by far the biggest area needing improvement. Luckily, he has a defensive soul-mate in Rubio.

I am fine with the trade and excited for him to be back. I think the kids will learn more from KG this last 20 odd games then they did from Young. I also bet that KG puts up better stats on his second tour then Payne ever does with the Wolves. (still not happy with that trade)

Word from someone I know in the Wolves organization is that the players are "giddy" over the acquisition of KG. I've embraced the deal and I'm excited to see what sort of positive impact KG can have on the our young guys and the team in general over the remainder of this season and next season. This deal has a good vibe to it. Not as good a vibe as I'd feel if I were a Thunder fan after getting Kanter or a Heat fan after getting Dragic. But still a positive feel. Barring any other significant injuries I think the Wolves will finish this season strong and end up with 22-26 wins.

This article tells me this is going to work. I am sure the KG trade had something to do with the Payne trade to get bigs with potential here to mentor.

When I read that Sporting News report about Garnett/Saunders wanting to buy the Wolves and I saw that the source was the Pioneer Press, my first thought was "please don't tell me the Sporting News just quoted Charlie Walters!". But, yup...right out of the Shooter's column. For you out-of-towners not familiar with Charlie...nice guy, but he never met a journalistic standard he respected. He's a couple notches below the National Enquirer!

Charlie has his sources. Typically they are voices in his head. Not usually the most reliable.

For those against this trade can you remind me of the negatives?

Here's my list of positives:

1. HOF mentor coming to us to lead group of 6-7 first or second year players
2. Best player in wolves history coming back to end his career in place it started
3. Locker room needs to be tightened up (see article Tim posted) KG's the man to do this
4. Future investor/owner here to get inside scoop on current roster
5. Backup PF who can still play 10-15 minutes per at a very high level
6. Thad Young gone. Thad had character but he's undersized and a liability as a starter in the tough west conf.
7. Save 10mil on Thad's OPT IN salary next year or if he OPTs-OUT its a wash as we could have signed KG outright
8. Spike ticket sales at target center
9. Its clear he has a special relationship with Flip Sanders. How can his be a negative to the young guys when now you have a HOF quality legend power forward backing up the messages of the coach
10. Zach Lavine will have a locker right next to KG. Reading into this a little but I get a sense these two guys have similar personalities. Zach's got a little potty mouth like KG (see draft footage) and is a gym rat like KG. I see a bond developing here.

Negatives
1. Could have gotten more for Thad - not sure I agree with this arguement. Who could we really have gotten?
2. KG's attitude bad for young guys - I disagree, there have been multiple guys KG has helped..most recently Plumlee. If you get in his inner circle/good side he's a great influence.
3. KG's a punk - disagree. He's got a potty mouth but otherwise the guys a model citizen. Worst he's done is walked off a basketball court without shaking hands. He once made some poorly chosen words about CV. Talked bombs and guns, i'm going to war talk? What else...the fight with Melo? Seriously KG is a model citizen who's done much less then Shaq, Kobe, Jordan, Malone, or Barkley...
