Amazing that some here believed that Gorgui gave a discount to stay here, and now he is a bad contract. The kicker was that Thibs signed him before his RFA year, which seemed stupid at the time, and even worse now.

The Dieng contract is not a good one. But most NBA teams are stuck with a glaring bad contract... many from the summer of 2016.

Fortunately, Dieng offers value on the court. Maybe not as much as we'd like... but at least he's not a terrible player with a terrible contract.

Everything you said in response is true. I don't think Teague, Dieng, and a first gets it done; it probably doesn't even get it started.

This deal would have to take place in the off-season when Wiggins' cap hit blossoms to $25M, but a Lillard and Harkless for Wiggins, Aldrich, and OKC first-round pick is what I come up with. They get a better defender in the backcourt with relatively high scoring potential and youth, cap relief by dumping Harkless' $10M annually the next two years, and a first-round draft selection.

Outside of including Patton in the offer, which I would try not to do, that's perhaps the best we can realistically do.

The problem with that is it does nothing to solve our issues with Teague and Dieng salaries.

You're right. Teague would actually have to be dealt prior to that move or else it'd be impossible to get a fair deal. I still have hope that someone views Dieng as a starting center in the league. Perhaps an injury will force someone's hand.

Cam -- Do you think the Porzingis injury might spark an interest by the Knicks in Gorgui? If so, who should/could the Wolves realistically seek in return?

I think the obvious would be to seek Courtney Lee, but I'm not sure the Knicks will like feel compelled to make a move for this season. Maybe they really like Gorgui. I just haven't seen any indication of that.

Note: I would make that trade now or in the off-season. That's very nice for us.

I actually feel they would likely offer Hardaway before Lee (due to contract length). I am probably in the minority, but I actually like Hardaway as a player. Is he overpaid, yep. Similar to Dieng, just at a position we need more. I feel he is in the same class with some of the other wings we have discussed in previous days. And he is still only 25 or 26. Maybe something here? Would love to pry away O'Quinn in a deal.

They just dealt Hernangomez to Charlotte for two 2nd round picks. If they try to make a move for this season they are seriously nuts. Heck they are in trouble for next season as Porzingis will likely miss around half of the season.

What happened to this situation with Hernangomez? Post all-star break last season the guy averaged 12-9 and 2 assists a game. He really came on huge. Wonder what changed?

They didn't play him because they had so many bigs and a few days ago it was reported he asked for a trade. The 2nds the Knicks got back are Charlotte's in 2020 and 2021 which could be valueable assuming Kemba is gone and they aren't good. Basically they got one of those protected 1st round picks that a lot of times end up being two 2nds anyway. Not a bad return.

I also wonder if they thought he wasn't going to be a guy that could play with Porzingis down the road. Is Porzingis really a PF? If they were really fprwardthinkjg they thought they should just cash in on a big man asset because the game may be going away from bigs and if you need one they will be plentiful and cheap. I like him though.

I don't see it. Hardaway is basically the only long term wing they have on their team. They have more bigs than they know what to do with. Wings have more value in this league than bigs. I actually like Hardaway to some extent too.

Yep. Cap is going up only 1%. Plus very few teams have cap space due to many overspending before. If you are a mid level FA player, you're screwed. The LeBrons and Paul Georges will get paid. Everyone else, not so much.
