- Wolves winning the play in was more impressive than the Nuggets winning the title

-“When my time is up and I retire… there will be people that say I changed the game.”

- "The rumors are as true or as false as Minnesota makes them to be."

-Pat Bev called Kat the best big in the league and Kat agreed.
I cringed at all those comments by KAT. He just can’t help himself. It’s not terrible. He’s not making bigoted or inappropriate remarks, he’s not hanging with porn stars or at strip clubs and he’s not waving a gun around at clubs or on camera. But he just says some of the dumbest things and expresses in the most awkward ways. The Pat Bev comment was hilarious. It was just Pat being Pat and it didn’t bother me. But seeing KAT agree left me dumbfounded.

As you said, none of this takes away from his all-star caliber play on the court. And as I noted, it doesn’t make him a bad guy. Honestly, he’s the third best center in the League behind Jokic and Embiid. He could be the third best big depending on how you define a “big” in the NBA. But the things KAT says just makes you wonder if he has any self-awareness.
He's not a bad guy, but his personality keeps serious players away from him.

Ouch, thanks for that Kek (I think!). Yeah, those are cringeworthy comments indeed. Lip summarizes it well below in describing what KAT isn't (he's not a typical NBA punk), but comments like this are why he will never be loved by sophisticated Wolves fans. And while I'm solidly on the "run it back" bus, we can't ignore the ramifications of that looming supermax deal. But we also can't ignore what KAT brings to a team...7 footers who can win a 3-point contest don't grow on trees. And after watching how Aaron Gordon shut down Durant, James and Butler after shutting down KAT (Gordon held Jimmy to 41% shooting in the finals!), I'm much more tolerant of KAT's poor playoff performance this season.

So please don't trade KAT unless we can get a king's ransom in return, but KAT...please think before you say stupid shit.

KAT doesn't think he needs to improve, which is why he hasn't while a guy like Jokic gets MVP's and Chips while we get first round playoff exits.

To the other point, defense matters more in the playoffs. Unless you are unstoppable like a Shaq or Jokic, LeBron in his prime. KAT simply isn't dominant. He can get shut down by great defense, which is why he does.

Then the final point, we could become a top 5 even top defensive team. Trade KAT and get even stronger on defense. Then on offense start depending on Ant even more. Kind of like how the Heat play with Jimmy. Great defense and rebounding can go a long ways in the playoffs.

I'm totally fine with moving on from KAT at some point. He's almost 28 years old now. He is who he is. He's probably not going to get better as player. He might get better situationally with different guys around him. That's what I assume TC was hoping for by adding Gobert. I think you have to give that a look until at least the trade deadline. If it's not working out - move KAT at the trade deadline - similar to what we did with DLO.

As everyone is acknowledging...this is the Anthony Edwards show going forward. KAT has been a very good player for us. But he never reached the star level I had hoped.

Question: Who would you rather have in their prime? KAT or Kevin Love?

There was a time, maybe a couple of years ago, I was mostly on board with this… I wasn’t completely sold then, I’m less sure now. KAT has a head problem — he’s not a head case, but he gets unfocused, too easily distracted and it costs him and the Wolves — that’s not news to any of us.

Anthony Davis, if he could stay healthy, is a more complete player — he played 56 games this year, about what what KAT missed. Sabonis is an absolute gem, averaging over 7 assists per game this season. I had Rudy and KAT at #3 and #4 after Embiid and Jokic back then… if Rudy returns to Utah form (which I expect next season), he’s in that conversation. But KAT is just entering his prime so likely edges Rudy out. Adebayo is up there, maybe Jarret Allen just behind the guys I’ve named.

Great question, Anthony. I would say KAT. You're a VORP guy, so I think you would agree. While Love's 7.2 VORP in 2013-4 was extraordinary, KAT has been much more consistently productive with a VORP over 4 in 4 of his 8 years, compared to only twice for Love. Love has had a terrific career, but KAT is at a different level.

With the emergence of Ant as the clear face of the franchise and elite defenders like Rudy and Jaden, KAT does not have to be a star. But I'm excited to see how productive KAT can be with defenses focusing on Ant. Once Ant gets more comfortable passing out of the double team, KAT's elite 3-point shooting can become a very dangerous weapon for us.

From Tim Hardaway, Sr on KAT’s recent comments: Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic, Bam Adebayo, Brook Lopez and Domantas Sabonis are all better centers than KAT

“You need to win playoff games, Karl-Anthony Towns has 0 series wins. He needs to have a reality check, and in Minnesota, they talk too much! They need to shut up, go out there, and play basketball.”

I have a hard time disagreeing…

This thread might as well close. After KAT's comments, he submarined what value he had left. Nobody heard him the last couple of days and decided to up their urgency to get him. No player heard this and thought, man he'd be such a great fit here. No GM heard this and wants to risk their job status on this guy.

The value is diminishing, no doubt. We've waited too long to trade him.

Yep. FNG, I would agree. KAT has had a better career. I remembered Love as more dominant, but when I look at VORP - it tells a different story. KAT is/has been more valuable aside from the 7.2 VORP year Love put up which was amazing. I guess I'm just frustrated. KAT has played more than 50 games in only one of the last four seasons. He's probably due for a rebound year and hopefully we'll be the team that gets that benefit.
