Yeah, the Rubio/DLO pairing at the end was puzzling. In theory, having another ball handler allows DLO to conserve energy for whatever halfcourt set gets run, with him being the main protagonist. The problem is there were no half-court sets run and if the plan is to simply have DLO run isolation, then Rubio should not be in there since he can't space the floor.

Q, I think I can explain the pairing. I didn't watch the game but instead reviewed the 4th quarter collapse in the ESPN play-by-play. The Wolves led by 8 with 7 minutes to play, and Ryan (correctly, I think) subbed Okogie in for Rubio...the intent being to close out the game with the 5 who started and had played so well. Unfortunately the strategy didn't work, and the lead was cut to 2 when Ryan called a timeout just 1 1/2 minutes later. He clearly felt he needed to insert Rubio back into the lineup to try to stabilize and avoid another 4th quarter disaster (I can't argue with that), so he put him in for Okogie, and it stopped the bleeding as we played them even the rest of the way

And reading into Ryan's restrained post-game comments, it's clear to me that the plan wasn't to have DLO run isolation. But it sounds like DLO's hero instincts took over, and the Wolves got away from the good ball movement they had employed all game. DLO made a couple shots, but he also missed 5 others plus a free throw.

That's what I get from the play-by-play. Did it seem a lot different live?

That's one way to look at it. But I left with different reasons for the duo on the court together.

- $28M + $17M = $45M.

To not try everything possible to try to figure out how to get them to gel in what's becoming a lost season would be a huge blow to the Rosas Regime. He should have known it wouldn't work. But he moved assets to put these two together. So it's in his best interest to give them more than 15 games together.

It's Rosas shit-stained bed... and Saunders has to sleep in it.

[Note: I posted Saunders' thinly veiled comments about ball stopping a week or so ago after another nail-biting late choke. The target of his derision was clear. And subsequently/coincidentally, Russell sat out some games with an "injury" after that. I don't think things are smooth behind closed doors on First Avenue.]

The problem is Rubio is doing nothing to create any sort of compelling contrast, i.e. "See, this is what it COULD look like if only DLO played the right way!". We had a glimpse of it during the 1st half run where Rubio was wheeling and dealing and making his layups. But on the season he's been awful and it leaves Ryan with a pick your poison choice.

The fact most of us would prefer McLaughlin as our starting PG is an indicator of the depressed state we're in at the PG position....J-Mac is a nice backup, but the fact he combines the simple concepts of ball movement and outside shooting accuracy makes him like a rare find at an archaeological dig for this franchise. He's not Teague, Rubio, OR DLO! We're more giddy by what he's not versus what he is.

I will say never heard that name before. Wolves have a lot of issues.

It's really sad that I want to see a Jmac, Beasley, Edwards, McDaniels, Kat lineups

Really like this post, especially the bold. Wouldn't it be great if Jim Pete or Jon Krawczynski had the stones to say something like this? Our media is part of the country club and it's one reason things don't change around here.

Me Too on that lineup!! Why not? It would be fun to watch, and it would be able to play a little defense.

As far as the nickname, you needed one and it just so happens to sound an awful lot like pecker. So I like it.

Agree totally. Everyone is so afraid of a move that the elephant remains in the room. Its pathetic. Imagine if we just had some winning teams and the fans could actually feel good to go to Target Center? Instead we keep making platitudes (even in the form of public money) to Glen for his perseverance in keeping this pathetic franchise in Minnesota, and the media stays silent on Glen, or actively defends him.

I should clarify my reply to Kek above. Don't misunderstand, it's not that I like pecker, I just like the word. I actually do like Kecker, both the person and word.

Glad we got that straightened out.
