Why do I still feel like we will regret not taking Russell?

I think you are in the minority. I certainly won't regret it if we don't take Russell. Heck I'd take Winslow, Porzingis, Okafor and Mudiay over him without hesitation. I wanted Boogie over Wes. I wanted DeRozan over Flynn. I wanted Terrence Jones over Budinger. But despite several front office moves I hated, I still am a Wolves fan.

I will still be a Wolves fan. I just worry we will be back here at this time and saying Towns is a fine player, but Russell is awesome. I was the same one all your other choices, but wanted Monroe over Wes. I think I am one of the rare people would still rather have Monroe over Boogie today. I think Boogie is cancer.

Even though I'm solidly on the Towns train, bleed, I completely understand your position. While I'm fairly confident that KAT will prove to be a superior NBA player to Okafor, I think any one of Russell, Porzingis or Mudiay has as much of a chance as Towns of being the best player in the draft, and there have been moments when I have found myself leaning toward trading down and selecting Russell. Here's how I ultimately moved away from Russell. Even if he turns out to be the best player, I don't think he will be much better than Towns...so I turn to best fit. And I'm probably more comfortable with Rubio's future as our PG than many here. If Flip believes the Wolves are set at PG with Rubio, as I do, you absolutely have to take Towns #1.

I also like the idea of somehow getting Russell with Okafor in this draft. That would be dynamic. But to be honest, I really like Ricky and still think he can be a PG on a championship team. If he can improve his shooting even slightly, we have a really good player and leader there. Towns at least has the potential to be a top 5 player in the game. I tend to side with the guys who say let's not get cute with this. Take Towns and celebrate. I'm more intrigued by how far back into the first round we can get with our other assets.

People forget how good Ricky can be when healthy. A healthy Ricky will be a fantastic fit with Towns and Wiggins. If we draft Towns and keep him, I'll be more excited for the Wolves than I was when we had KG, Marbury and Wally.

Why couldn't Rubio an Russell play together?

They could. But then you're blocking Lavine and would probably have to address that redundancy.
