I think Taj is slowly deteriorating. I don't want him to re-sign even at a discount.

I was thinking the same thing, Doper. I'd feel much better right now if we had Josh Richardson on this team with an extra first round pick on the way next summer. If we also had Olynyk, I'd be thrilled. If we had Waiters instead, I'd still be content to know the Butler drama is behind us and we have a very talented 25 year old who scored 28 points in his last game and would have likely put us over the top tonight.

JRich went 3/11 tonight for 7 pts.

That still would have been better than Williams.

Its all butterfly effect. Who knows what would have happened. Maybe if Richardson plays we dosent get into foul trouble, so Rose plays less minutes and we lose by more. Of course I would rather have a guy who is actually playing though. But we still can't take bad long term contracts back.

Ya. I wanted to trade him so bad this offseason. I just thought there was no way he could repeat last year. His value would have been its highest it would have ever been. Being an expiring for a good vet. I think that was a legit missed opportunity. Especially when Thibs has said he wants to play more small ball this year.

The first 2 games Taj was averaging nearly a double double in less than 28 minutes.

So in three games he's had 21, 28 and 7 points. I'd still take him at his age and on his contract, putting the Butler drama behind us and getting an extra 1st round pick to boot.

Lip, I hear you, I really do, but he's gone 8-21, 8-21, and 3-11. He has yet to finish a game with a positive +/- this season and it's because he's doing too much. He's not a rising star that can do it all, but that's what some are valuing him at and it's preposterous to me.

For some reason, I don't feel rushed to move on from an All-NBA player in his prime. And I certainly don't feel compelled to take a shitty deal for him. If a team doesn't pony up an acceptable offer, I'm content with rolling the dice this year, winning plenty of games, and seeing what happens with Butler next summer.

Also, I think the Butler drama is played out, as in, I think it was more of a facade than anything. None of the proposed stories and theories make any sense other than Butler just wants his money, and rightfully so. It could be as simple as Layden not wanting to give him the full max. Guess what the fix is? Giving Butler his money next summer after another successful season. The beef with teammates is overblown in my view.

I dont like the argument that the game shouldnt have come down to the refs. This is the nba and these are professionals where any given team can win on any given night. The damn refs need to do better. These are blatantly bad calls.

As for Butler I agree we hold him unless we get an acceptable offer. If it really is about money are we not in position with his rights to offer him the most money for his next contract? Id call his bluff. Hed pey resign then if its about the money. If it is the right deal however i say we move him and please for the love of god FIRE Thibs Yesterday

I agree that there were bad calls, and the DSJ play was a terrible call, but I feel like if we were Mavs fans we would also have hated the officiating tonight. I mean we shot more FTs. I feel like we are so invested as fans that bad calls late in games are so magnified and in the end the reffing was pretty even.

The Ft discrepancy is more about playstyles than simply reffing.

The wolves lived in the paint.
The mavs avoided the paint and just hoisted up 3's. And when the mavs did go into the paint, they got some calls.

Wiggins and okogie were absolutely hosed tonight by the refs. We were actually winning when were allowed to play with an actual wing player. I thought both were defending tonight abd got penalized for their effort while dsj and doncic got the superstar calls.

We do not net that 1st rounder unless you're expecting Miami to fork over 2 first rounders + Richardson + Olynyk. No way is Glen going to go into luxury tax by keeping both Dieng and Olynyk or Waiters. So that 1st rounder is going to another team (Kings) to eat either Dieng or Olynyk. Is trading Butler for Richardson and Dieng or Waiters/Olynyk for 3 years really worth it?

Jimmy + Dieng for Richardson + Whiteside + 1st is the only option i see, and is that worth it?

If I do remember correctly, Miami owes the rights to their next 1st rounder to the Suns, or someone else. So if for some odd reason we do get a 1st rounder this season from them and it doesn't convey, we get Richardson, Filler, and 2 seconds. But, there are not going to be two 1sts on the table from Miami, so whoever we are pawning off Dieng or Olynyk/Waiters to will definitely be looking at that scenario.

It's a shame that patton was hit with an injury bug because if he could be a paint presence, i think moving kat to pf would be better.

If we move taj, then try dieng again at c.
