I'm stoked that we have three awesome two-way players. Does anyone know if another NBA team could poach one of them by offering a standard contract to one of them? Do we have any right to match another team's offer in such a case. If so, I'd feel good about leaving them on two ways. If not, I'd strongly consider moving Garza to a standard deal and also give some consideration to moving Nix or Clark onto a standard deal after waiving Moore assuming we can't trade him for anything.
There us no poaching. They are all wolves players and they can’t be traded. They will all be RFA next year. Garza 2-way eligibility might run out next year

Thanks Kek. That is good to hear. I guess its best to leave spot 15 open for now in case we need to bring in an injury replacement, but there may be a point where we convert Garza to a standard deal if we want him available for the playoffs. If Rudy were to go down, I think we'd want to bring in someone who could offer some level of rim protection. We are also a bit thin at small forward so if Jaden or Kyle suffers a serious injury, we might want to bring someone outside in. I think we are pretty deep as far as guards and power forward and probably can just promote guys on the roster to cover for injuries.

Shams Charania: The Minnesota Timberwolves are waiving wing shooter Matt Ryan and signing Daishen Nix to a two-way NBA contract, per sources. Nix averaged 6 points and 3.3 assists in preseason. Ryan scored 18 points on 6 3‘s over final 2 games. 2 days ago – via Twitter ShamsCharania

That was a really strange tweet by Shams with his apples to oranges comparison. Ryan scored 0 points in his first two games, so Shams conveniently left out those games. In other words, Ryan scored 4.5 points in 4 games. It's as if Shams is trying to inflate Ryan's stats and minimize that of Nix, who played only 10.6 minutes per game, compared to 13.4 minutes for Ryan. But the more remarkable contrast is Nix shooting 75% on his threes and 57.1% overall while Ryan shot 35.3% and 28.6% overall. Also, noteworthy was Nix's ten assists in a game where he got extended minutes.

Matt Ryan has signed a two way deal with the Pelicans. Glad to hear he quickly got picked up. Another former Wolf, Nathan Knight signed a two way with the Celtics.

I like Matt Ryan but Nix does probably have more upside. I feel like with Nix body frame you can playing him to some extent 1-3. Ryan can play I guess to some extent 2-4 but I think it would be pretty unlikely he would play at all at the 4 with so many other options including playing younger guys like Minot and Miller.
I had seen/heard something from Dane Moore that said the Wolves were excited about Nix. Matt Ryan was ok in preseason but he sure didn’t lock up that roster spot. Meanwhile Nix wasn’t awesome IMO but he did some good things and while it’s a small sample size and just preseason he was literally twice and productive and significantly more efficient than his preseason output as a Rocket. He doesn’t turn 22 till February and is from Alaska. It would be awesome to see him kinda put it together to some extent and become something worthwhile.

Yeah IMO both of those guys can play and getting them on 2 ways deals if you want guys that can come in and play NBA minutes if needed ain’t a bad thing.

Danny Green was waived by Philly. We have an open spot. Should we have any interest in Green? I know he's 36, but he has won a few titles and can probably still shoot the three ball and play better defense than most the entire team did in last night's game and in light of our mental weakness, he might be a good locker room guy.

Interesting thought, KG. But I don’t see Danny Green have any impact either on the court or in the locker room. There is zero chance that filling that last roster spot with a free agent will have any meaningful impact on the team. Nothing short of a major trade at the deadline or after the season will have any chance of making a difference in my view. The roster is fundamentally flawed; therefore it needs fundamental change. The Wolves have to keep Ant and Jaden even through the jury is still out on both of them. They’re too young and talented to give up on. But everyone else on the roster (except maybe Miller) should be considered expendable for the right price.
