Re: Adrian Payen
I wonder if we could have had Enes Kanter instead of Payne.
Enes Kanter | F/C | Utah Jazz
Kanter's public trade demand last week cut into the Jazz's leverage for shopping the restricted free agent, whose style doesn't match the team's vision. The bigger problem is finding a market for Kanter, with few teams in need of a big man who doesn't protect the rim. As with Bass, Toronto might be the best fit. Kanter would be an upgrade over Tyler Hansbrough off the bench. That might be enough to get the Raptors to part with a pick.

I liked him the year he was drafted. I wanted to trade down with Utah for him and Burks. I think he might be a good player next to Dieng and is a pretty good rebounder.

No thanks, RFA with an agent who thinks he deserves max money.

I understand, but I would have rather seen a lower price PF tryout then what we gave up for Payne. That first pick should have gotten us a better prospect. Kanter is younger and more proven. I doubt Payne ever even gets to his level of play.

Really? If you take a serious look at Kanter's numbers, he really doesn't do anything very well. He is absolutely not worth very much money. And is agent is starting from the max?!?
I really think everyone who dislikes the price we paid for Payne is not really appreciating what Payne can do.

Tim - Basically Kanter is recreating Pek's stats as a 22 years old. (younger then Payne)

Kanter actually is grabbing 1 more board and shooting a higher % while taking almost 1 3 a game and making 30% of them. Anyone that doesn't think we over paid for Payne has drank the cool-aid. Draft Express rated him 18th last year before the draft. The guys value has only gone down.

Shockingly EG was out of the league by 24.
Oh wow, Eddie griffin. I was sure he had figured it out and was going to be one hell of a player. I absolutely loved the way he played ball. Instead it just is another case of the what ifs.
That's funny. I hated watching Eddie Griffin play basketball.
He was 6'10" and shot less than 38% as a pro. He was a poor three point shooter but tried to force that part of his game repeatedly. He even did so in his one year in college where he showed just how immature he was on and off the court.
He offered nothing except (unfulfilled) potential. Perfect guy for the Wolves I guess.

Jeff Adrain is 24 also, can he be much better than him? maybe a little but Idk about a lot better or that much better that it was worth a 1st rounder.

Mehh. It's hard to get upset at 14/8 in 27 MPG from a 22-year old. His PER 36 put him at 18/10. And while I don't think he's a max player, I'd bet most of the teams around the league don't either. And the teams that actually do think of him as a max guy likely don't have the cap space or a hole in their frontcourt to fill.
His agent is supposed to try and get him the most money possible (helps the agent financially too), but that asking price will come down significantly. Remember Stephenson wanted big money too. He hasn't shown enough ability like Hayward or Parsons who got their max deals.
As far as Payne goes, what's there to appreciate? He doesn't do any one thing all that good. Him being 24-years old as a rookie and not dominating in D-League during his stint are also head-scratching factors that are involved in this. We gave up a first round pick for the guy. And don't try me with the protection stuff either. We should be a playoff team in the next five years, which means we owe the pick. If we are a playoff team, it's likely that the reasons are Rubio, Wiggins and 2015 pick; not Payne. Then we don't have a first rounder to trade/use to acquire more help for the playoff push.
And if we are NOT a playoff team in that window, thus giving up the two second rounders, then Payne was a flop as well as the other Wolves pieces and Flip likely isn't the PoBO anymore.
I just don't see a bright side to this trade. I think it's going to end up being a dumb move when it's all said and done.
