Grizz at Wolves, Redux GDT
Re: Grizz at Wolves, Redux GDT
Kwame Brown, Anthony Bennett and Markelle Fultz were not part of their respective teams top 7 rotation either. Not a nice group of players to be compared though.

And two of those teams were trying to the make the playoffs. Brown unfortunately joined a Wizards team that had just landed Jordan. And the 76ers won 50 games that season.

I really really hope that Wolves would at least TRY to make playoffs this season. If not, it can't be good for our mental health.

Well... without a draft pick... I don't see why not.
It'll be interesting to see just how much of a difference it makes.

I realize the first two pre-season games were not confidence boosters, but I do think this squad wants to compete for at least a top 10 finish, if not top 8 (??).
As you and others have brought up before, it's an odd situation because most #1 picks are brought in to be part be the centerpiece of a rebuild, so playing them 25+ minutes per night right away makes sense.
But are we in the midst of a re-build or are we halfway through it based on having KAT, DLO, Beasley, and a bundle of young guys that could potentially be good eventually, only one of which is Edwards?

Bottom line is that a) we're already partially rebuilt, and b) the guy we happened to bring in is super raw. This isn't Duncan, LeBron, or Zion. I could make a good case to limit Edwards' minutes even though that is kind of an exception to past #1s.

That's the rub. I don't know. More importantly, do the Wolves know?
Because if the Wolves can't compete even for a top 10 spot as constructed... AND... Edwards doesn't get much run... AND... there's no help coming next season...
As I've said before, "What are we doing?"
[Note: The more I think about it... I think we're about to be slightly surprised by how many games a team trying NOT to lose can win in today's NBA.]

Yeah, worst-case scenarios is we slow-roll Edwards' development because he's raw AND we suck anyway.
I suspect in reality if we suck, we'll know the season is down the drain a couple of months in and at that point Edwards starts getting a lot more run. But he really has no business playing a lot of minutes early IMO. There are far more worthy guys like Culver that should get more minutes (not that the jury is in on him yet either, but there is no question he is currently the more competent player).

Re: Grizz at Wolves, Redux GDT
Let's be honest, Other than KAT and possibly DLO, is there anyone else on this team who we would really miss if he didn't play? Edwards needs PT and he would get it if I was running the show. None of our contenders for playing time are worth a shit, and I wouldn't play Beasley because he's a jackass. Culver seems to be getting a lot of love from the board but his win share rating was in negative figures last year. Lower than Naz, Nowell and a host of other Timberwolves who simply can't play.
I'm guessing Edwards is the first or 2nd off the bench from the get-go, and ends up starting by mid-season.

Why does Edwards need PT in your eyes, but not Culver? Both are inexperienced high draft picks that have positives and negatives within their games. It makes little sense to abandon Culver's development but in the same breath continue to invest in Edwards.
