I'm convinced that the Cavs Lakers trade was a favor to ensure that if Lebron does end up going to LA that he does it in a sign and trade. In spite of Lebron's renewed enthusiasm for this roster I don't think there is any way he is staying in Cleveland. LA will end up parting with some of their youth to acquire Lebron. I think LA wanted to do this trade with Cleveland and even if we pitched a trade that was a little better it wouldn't have mattered.

The league was VERY interested in LeBron getting a better team and getting back to the finals, so I'm sure they were acting as a 'consultant' in this.

If anything, the Cavs-Lakers trade reduces the Lakers' need to do a sign-and-trade for LeBron. The deal clears more salary space for the Lakers to sign LeBron outright and still have plenty of cap space remaining to sign other good players. The deal was just the Cavs' effort to turn the season around and have a chance at another championship while LeBron is still there. That makes sense. As long as you have LeBron, even if just the rest of this season, and you're paying the luxury tax, you might as well go for it.

It was a really good trade for both teams. The Lakers cleared more salary space to pursue LeBron and other free agents next summer while the Cavs have reenergized and transformed the team back into a legitimate title contender that can give the Warriors or Rockets a run for their money. But there's a definite potential downside for the Cavs. If LeBron leaves after this season the Cavs are stuck with a huge payroll for two seasons and it will be hard to deal most of the big contracts like Tristen Thompson's, George Hill's, etc., for expiring ones.

I've been assuming that LeBron will leave after this season. I'd still bet he signs with the Lakers. I can't think of another team that he'd want to go to that would would have the cap space to sign him. But I wouldn't be shocked if LeBron decided to stay with the Cavs. He likes all the attention, speculation and intrigue. He doesn't like the Cavs' owner. We just don't know how emotionally attached he is to his home state and community.

Here is my new trade idea depending on a physical of course, trade Gorgui for Joakim and a pick. Should definitely help our defense if he is truly healthy, and although it is more money per season, it is for only two more years.

It was rumored that Noah was going to get bought out.

Not a bad idea. As you suggested, it depends on Noah's health.

Yeah nobody is gonna take on that salary. The Dunc'd On guys said someone on Twitter suggested to them that contracts like Joakim's should be considered to have a No-ah trade clause. Lol

A guy I would love to see in a Wolves uniform next season - Pat Beverley. We need to add another high energy, hard nosed player and he also (although undersized) brings us a 3 & D guy. Doesn't need the ball in his hand and can play the two guard next to Teague or Jones. Also give us a great defensive option at the point for situational match ups.

He's coming off season ending knee surgery - micro fracture and meniscul injury so his stock will be down. He also has a team option of 6mil on the last year of his contract, which no doubt the Clippers will take on.

A trade I've been pondering (although on the fence about) is:

Cole Aldrich (7 mil expiring, but believe he has a buy out option of 1.5 mil)
2018 1st round (via OKC)

For

Pat Beverley
Sam Thornwell
Future 2nd round pick

Like Beverly a lot. I'd do this deal if it was part of some bigger plan to get more help with our wings first and our front court 2nd. Those areas seem a bigger need to me than the point.

I like the thought, but I'd hate this trade. I think I'd much rather just roll Tyus Jones out there as he is already on his way to becoming an elite defender -- today's metrics say he's already there -- and he has a much bigger impact on the game offensively, in my opinion.

I'd take that same view that you have and just shift it towards someone that can play the wing, preferably both positions.
