Those are the type of things you do when you HAVE to and that's where Memphis is they have a window. Personally I could see Memphis failing big time with the age and injury concerns with that roster. It could also come together especially if Parsons is healthy. That's the type of player they have needed for years. I'm sorta both hoping it works out and fails (because Inam a Wolves fan) at the same time

Parsons is a great fit there. Conley/Allen/parsons/Randolph/gasol is very formidable. A great balance of offense and defense.

Ouch...my first choice in free agency. But I agree 100%...4 years is too much. This signals to me that the Wolves completely understand the implications of a 4-year deal this summer to signing their Big 3...they simply can't offer a 4-year deal this summer if they expect our youngsters to reach their potential and hope to keep them all.

I'm disappointed and encouraged at the same time...encouraged, because this is another indication that this management team gets it. Now, who becomes my first choice to come in as our starting SF on a deal no longer than 3 years? Any ideas for me?

Ha, that's probably where we end up, and I like Wig. I just thought moving him to SG and Zach to 6th man allowed us to hide Wig's rebounding and really improve our bench. Losing Deng was the right decision, but hit me hard. And I just can't find any solid defending free agent SF's out there that allow the Wolves to execute my plan.

I do have one thought, but don't think it will be popular here. If we are somehow able to land a really good 2-way PF (Gasol or Milsap), offense at SF will no longer be a priority with 3 solid scorers in the starting lineup. I would then be on board with starting Tay Prince. We saw last year what he can do on defense, and he's a willing passer who wouldn't take shots away from our scorers. I could see Thibs loving a lineup of KAT/Gasol or Milsap/Tay/Wig/Ricky.

Not likely to happen though, so I think Wig and Zach will be our starting wings next year. Let's hope Thibs can do what Sam and Flip couldn't, and get Wig to be even an average rebounding forward.

I think Marvin Williams is Plan B...

I've been pondering what Deng's decision to go to LA means. There are so many possible reasons for his decision, and I'm not sure what the answer is.

I think we know Thibs wanted Deng. We were one of the first to contact his agent, and if you look at the enormous minutes Thibs gave Deng in Chicago, it's obvious he's a player he really likes. Deng is a guy who has always played for good teams, so why would he decide to insert himself into the LA chaos?

I'm guessing the Wolves didn't want to give him 4 years because of the negative cap implications it would have in year 4. But Deng has made 10s of millions of dollars during his career. Is not getting a 4th year a good enough reason for him to choose LA over Minnesota? Or does Deng not see a big difference (like most of us do) between LA's and Minnesota's prospects for winning?

Is this a climate decision? Deng spent his early years in the Sudan and Egypt, and last year in Miami. Could it be he didn't remember his winters in Chicago very favorably?

The next factor is one I hope is not true, but is a possibility. We know that Thibs wanted Deng, but could it be that Deng didn't want Thibs? We know that players grumbled about Thibs' grueling mid-season practices, and as a 31-year-old vet, maybe Deng decided he didn't need that anymore. That would be unfortunate if Thibs' reputation was a negative to bringing in free agents, rather than a positive as most of us have been assuming.

Maybe it's a combination of all of these, but I'm still troubled about this. It just doesn't make sense to me that Deng's decision was based on getting one more year from LA, so I think there's more than that. Anyone else troubled by losing Deng?

I just teed up the same topic cool. Thibs had a long conversation with Gasol last night, so if we lose him too, Thibs will be 0-3 on his former players wanting to come to Minny. There may be other factors involved, but we'd be naïve to ignore this as a red flag.

That lineup is good, but where's the money for a bench now with Conley and Alan Parsons eating up 50 million? I know Memphis "had" to do it, but I'm guessing it was like the Pek deal, nobody else offered anything close to that.
