Exactly, who cares about a low 2nd round pick. They won't make the team anyway. And we have 3? Wow, then absolutely give them one if that's all it takes. Don't try and Kahn the Grizzlies here. Best to grab him before they realize they've made a huge mistake.

Well obviously Memphis cares about the 2nd round pick. Those picks have value especially for pick and stash purposes. If the Wolves have to give up the lowest one that's fine but this is essentially a game of chicken and about money which is what the later 2nd round picks are because you can generally buy one if they really wanted to have 3 in this draft again.

It seems like the Joerger hiring is close to being a done deal, but I wonder if Flip talked with David Blatt too. Souhan suggests they hire Blatt instead of Joerger in his column today. Shved thrived playing for him during the Olympics, so we might be getting a new coach and a good backup point guard if Blatt were the guy.

I'm on board with the Joerger deal, but I find Blatt to be an interesting alternative.

Shved? Who's that?

Yeah, I know...it's difficult to see him as relevant with the way he played last year. But I still remember his brilliance playing PG for Blatt, and think he is probably just another Adelman casualty. Rick must not have noticed that Alexey led Russia to a bronze medal as a PG, because he never really gave him a chance there. Who knows, maybe Joerger will allow Alexey to play his natural position.

Maybe Adelman didn't like the idea of having a backup PG who can't shoot backing up a PG who can't shoot. I hope the new coaches can find a way to make the two of them average at minimum!

When Alexey came over, all anyone talked about was his sharpshooter skills. He shot pretty well for a stretch, but then he broke and never got fixed.

Are the Wolves conducting too narrow of a search again? We saw it happen last year with Flip, when Taylor completely ignored other candidates. Has Flip done the same this year in search of a new coach? I am not suggesting that Joerger is a bad hire, but doesn't it seem a little odd to focus so hard on one guy that is still under contract, rather than looking at all the options.

Hollins was Joerger's boss and Joerger may have just been successful riding Hollins coattails at the NBA level. I am curious as to why Hollins wasn't even a finalist, and was he brought in for an interview. Did we jump on Joerger due to his Minny ties, rather than coaching acumen? Is this another CC hire?

Are our options limited due to the Love saga? Do they think Joerger can change Love's mind? Do we want him to if the offers are really good?

First of all its pretty clear Flip has been plenty busy with the coaching search he has just kept a lot of it pretty quiet. I bet for a bunch of reason's Joerger was one of the top options for Flip when looking for a coach especially since he knew it was very unlikely he was going to get any of the college coaches to come to the Wolves.

I know many people have mentioned the country club and while we know Taylor has made some poor decisions that have frustrated the fanbase I am going to defend Taylor and the conutry club as well up to a point.

When Taylor took over this franchise it was a joke a terrible failure after its beginnings in 1989. He began his country club by hiring McHale who had ties to the state and he also hired Flip who also had local ties. McHale made some good moves not just selecting KG. The next few years the wolves became a very good team with Flip and KG leading the way. Were there some screwups and bad luck? Yes and Glen was a piece of that but the reality is that the Wolves were at least relevant. When things started really falling apart The Wolves went through some coaches Casey, McHale and Wittman that all were in the playoffs this year. All those guys may not have been ready to be full-time coaches at the time but I think we can see now those guys were not hopeless basketball minds. Remember the hottest coaching name in the NBA this year is Fred Hoiberg who Glen wanted to stay with the organization after he was done with his playing career. Also remember that the Wolves were one healthy Sam Cassell away from having a very real chance at winning a Championship which would have changed how everything would be considered.

Glen's most significant hire outside the country club was Kahn who hired Rambis and well that went very poorly. Adelman was outside the country club and even that had mixed results despite Adelman's ceredentials.

So last summer Glen went back to the country club and hired Flip and his first offseason was mixed results. Joerger I would say is within the blueprint of guys that Glen has brought in since taking over the team that have local ties etc.

My point is that while we as fans have ripped on Glen and rightfully so Glen has brought in some pretty decent basketball minds in the past and saw some talent in those guys.

When considering that Joerger may be the best candidate this team could have based on all the factors. He has a good relationship with Flip has a defensive coaching ability is young has some desire to play an uptempo style but is flexible to play to the strengths of his players and has plenty of experience teaching guys to play the sport. I love Fred but Joerger may actually be a better option than he is because his overall coaching experience. Joerger seems to be a good option no matter what direction the team goes. I REALLY like this likely hire it could be one of the best hires in this franchise. In some ways I think Adding Joerger could set up this franchise for the first time in a while with the right components for being a legit run franchise. Let's hope so.

My point here is that the doom and gloom about Glen Taylor is over the top. He hasn't been the best owner at times but he isn't the bumbling idiot that some like to paint him out of understandable frustration.
