Certainly NAW can fill in for Nowell, but with all the Bones chatter, I feel that's something that they are trying to make happen before today's deadline.

Quite bummed that TC didn't offer Nowell and 2 2nds for Bones. I don't see the Wolves keeping both Nowell and NAW after this season, so going after Bones who has 2 more years on his contract and potential as the future PG, or microwave sixth man, would have been a nice move. The only imminent roster focus then in this offseason would have been to extend Reid and match an offer to NAW if reasonable.

It seemed they were still interested in adding Bones but I'm gonna guess they felt like the price of Nowell and two 2nd was more then they wanted to pay when they had also acquired NAW. I don't think it's been mentioned yet but NAW's rookie year Finch was an assistant there so there is some familiarity. Obviously the biggest difference between Bones and NAW and Nowell is he has shot the 3 well in his career. The bad thing is Nowell and Bones have the rep as poor or disastrous defenders. NAW has some some good things this year and even someone averagish there would be nice. He has a little more size than either Nowell or Bones so that helps. His upside isn't as high offensively but if Bones can't ever defend anyone (still is under 170lbs) that's gonna be a problem even at PG.

It would be really great to find a solid big guard that can do a little of everything next to Edwards that could be at least a solid defender. NAW probably isn't that guy but Bones probably isn't either. At some point the Wolves will need someone on the perimeter other than Edwards that can get a bucket whenever. Maybe that could even come as a 6th man bench guy type. At this point the Wolves need to be looking at options for filling the guard spots. If both NAW and Nowell leave this offseason there will be an opening/pretty good opportunity for a guard to get some minutes with this team. That could land a guy that's ends up being a good/worthwhile player.

I have always liked the idea of what NAW can become. At 6'5/6'6 with a 6'11 wingspan he has plenty of potential on both ends of the court. He can score at all 3 levels, although his FT% is alarming. His defense is definitely better than both Bones and Nowell. I know Nowell had a great game, but a guard with no D, lack of facilitation skills, and a pretty poor 3pt shot has no real place in the league and I do not understand why Finch is so enamored with him. Bones does suck on D, but his offensive potential is huge.

Nowell seems hell bent on leaving for some reason, even though he is getting plenty of run here, and with this being NAWs 4th team, I doubt he will cost much to retain.

I hope the Wolves keep Rivers on another minimum.

Conley/Jmac/Ant/NAW/Rivers/Moore (though I am not high on him) is not a terrible guard rotation. You're right, this offseason will be real important on finding the future guard pairing to Ant. Conley and Jmac are not that. It will be tough with the limited cap and draft assets. Here's to hoping TC can find a gem in the 2nd or undrafted market.

I'll add that while I know not many people are high on Moore I think he will benefit from having Conley around. Moore doesn't project as a flashy guy but more of a do stuff and be solid making the right play type. That type of could be valuable if he becomes a good enough player to either be a valued rotation guy or even a starter. I'm posting a lot about how Conley could help various guys. I DO NOT want to oversell his ability to have that magic mentoring potion but it doesn't mean he can't help a little in that way. Ant gets another guard to learn from as well in Conley. That's not a bad thing.

Edit: I'll add that Nowell has shown facilitation skills at times in his career and is a low turnover guy. This year he has really cranked up the shot taking quite a bit. It does seem like based on reports he is looking to move on. Maybe he doesn't have a reasonable idea of what his value on the market will be. He wouldn't be the first player to be somewhat clueless in that regard. Also I think with the lack of PGs available I think Finch kinda had to play Nowell over Forbes. I think they wanted to give Nowell every opportunity to succeed and his ability to make shots in the paint has value.

Nowell is an UFA right? If so, I wonder what was offered to him to make him so adamant on getting out of here.

As for Moore, I hope I am wrong, but I don't really see a good feel for the game from him. Granted, I have watched zero G-league games.

Minott looks very promising, I hope he spends a lot of time with McDaniels moving forward to learn how to position his body on D. That was a glaring weakness of his in this last game I thought. His nose for the ball on rebounds and blocks was very promising though. If he adds some weight and keeps developing, I can see him being a very good combo forward. Ant/Jaden/Minott developed would be awesome at the 2/3/4.

He's more defensive than Nowell and not as one on one oriented. He was a good shooter in college and has shot well this season, NAW will get an opportunity to showcase his skills. If he plays well I think you could see him along side ANT with ANT doing the majority of the ball handling.

Moore actually does have a good feel for the game. Where he is underwhelming is in the athleticism and skill department. There isn't one thing athletically or sklll-wise that he can hang his hat on. He's just sort of "meh" at everything. I think it's his feel and instincts on both ends that have gotten him this far.

Minott absolutely has a hard time staying square on defense. I am very suspect of his ability to stay with wings - and I mean wings better than the ones off Utah's bench the other night, where even there he got sideways a couple times and beat. But he definitely has a high activity level and nose for the ball. That is a refreshing sight for a team that loses a ton of 50/50 rebounds.

I forget who it was, I want to say Prince, that was coaching Minott up on the floor about squaring up and forcing the ball handler to their offhand and into the middle of the defense. He kept turning sideways and allowing right handed drives right to the rim. Outside of that, it was a very promising showing. The 3pt shot is a bit slow and wonky too, but that's par for the course for most Wolves we've watched over the years.

I'll take your word on Moore, as I haven't seen a ton of him, but "meh" is exactly how I feel about him. Nothing about his game excites me. Just an odd pick in my opinion.
