Complaints per minute is a stat, right?

You bring up a good point and one that may have been overlooked. I prefer the more nuanced advanced stat WHIPM (Whine Per Minute).

From Jonny K: "Karl-Anthony Towns has not been on the bench for the last several games. Asked Chris Finch about it before the game:

Said Towns is adhering to "recovery protocols and keeping his leg in the right position."

Still no timetable for a return."

Boy, I'm starting to worry we won't see KAT this season. Gotta be killing him.

On the plus side, nice to see the team starting to gel a little bit. A KAT injury like this to last years team would have meant the season was over.

SD, I mentioned this in the GDT. I think it's disgraceful that KAT has not been with the team. Prince and JMac know what being a good teammate means, and they were there cheering on their boys. Finchie tried to cover for Absent KAT with the weakest-ass excuse ever! But what is he supposed to say? "KAT's not here because he cares more about his girlfriend than this team." Disgraceful.

That said, I have great hopes for this team, and I want 40% 3-point shooting KAT back as soon as possible. His 3-point shooting gives us better spacing and opens up the lane for Ant. And his rebounding and defense are far superior to Naz/Knight/Garza. We're good now, and we will be much better when he comes back.

And I think he will be back. Everything on the internet says a Grade 3 calf strain takes 2 to 3 months to return, and that would mean he's back sometime between today and the end of March. It may turn out to be the end of March (with Prince back this week and JMac back mid-March) but what an addition those three guys will be!

Meanwhile, I'm sending thoughts and prayers to KAT as he endeavors to keep his leg in the right position...

To be fair... it's not unique to Towns that he's not at every game during an extended injury.

And I've seen him on the bench quite a bit... I'd presume more than many other stars around the league in the same position.

[Note: Although, I'd feel guilty as heck if I was making $40M or whatever and just had to show up on the sidelines a couple or 3 times per week.]

Kat also from his twitch stream says he is back in a boot for the first time since the beginning of an injury. Dude has been so many games and tweets support for the team and Ant nightly. Let the big fella rest that calf. Think the "bad teammate" thing is over brown

True, and it's not unusual for NBA stars to cheat on their wives every time they're on the road, but we don't have to admire it. Good on Finchie to at least try to cover for him, even though it was the lamest excuse I've ever heard. Thanks to JMac and Prince for their bravery is risking their health by sitting in a "low chair"...they are true heroes. And KAT- you're a unique talent on the court and I want you back as soon as possible because I like winning, but I wish you didn't give KAT-haters so much ammo to question your character all the time.

I think the thing that bugs the shit out of me is the drama that always surrounds KAT. I don't want this to come off as mean-spirited, but its just more of an arms-length observation. It seems like if he runs into adversity - small or large - it basically ends up being 2X or 3X a bigger deal than it would be under most circumstances.

- He gets fouled and there is no whistle...OF COURSE it's the worst injustice every committed by mankind....

- He gets ill prior to camp. OF COURSE he ends up in the hospital and is practically on life support....

- He gets a calf strain and is originally diagnosed to be out 4-6 weeks. OF COURSE he was just put in a walking boot nearly two months later.

- Covid hits and he tragically loses his Mom. OF COURSE there were 8 or 9 other relatives that died from it. What!?

Again, not trying to be mean-spirited here, but notice a pattern????

The good news is that KAT overall seems to be a good man and a good teammate. He also has been willing to bend his game to fit his team mates. But thank God that it appears his absence has accelerated the process of this becoming Ant's team. I certainly don't want KAT leading this team into the trenches. He's fine as a 2nd or 3rd fiddle.

I chuckled at your post, Q, because while I also think KAT is basically a good (and smart) man and actually likable in many ways, he does seem to always be surrounded by controversy that is just a little bit more than the circumstances warrant. There's a victim mentality there that offends me a little.

But perhaps I'm looking at this wrong. JMac also has a grade 3 calf strain that has kept him out for several weeks. Rather than ripping KAT for not showing up, maybe I just be praising JMac's enormous courage for risking life and limb by showing up and sitting in one of those dangerous "low chairs'. Talk about bravery!

These are what I've seen other Timberwolves fans refer to as "KAT-isms." The overly dramatic, usually ridiculous quotes and incidents that surround him. You live with the rare and elite talent that he is, but the KAT-isms will always follow.

My favorites for this season are the following:

- The Timberwolves made a mega-trade for Rudy Gobert over the summer. When asked about the deal, Karl-Anthony Towns proceeded to act in utter shock as if he thought the organization had traded for... wait for it... Rudy Gay! Does anyone here really think he wasn't approached or contacted about trading for Gobert before they pulled the trigger? Come on.

- Remember when Towns was sick leading up to the season? It's probable that he was bed ridden from whatever serious illness he was dealing with, and doctors likely told him to "stay off his feet" to recover... KAT went and told the world that he wasn't cleared to walk!

And then there's that whole thing last year about watching gorilla fights before games to pump himself up. These are all KAT-isms. You just have to put up with it. He's a good dude, but the silly drama follows him.

Yep. KAT has his flaws. But those flaws don't include being selfish or not caring about his teammates. He's never threatened or even hinted at threatening to leave in spite of a long history of front-office mismanagement and losing. He's never thrown teammates under the bus. He's never shunned the media, dissed fans or whined about booing. He's never had any drug or legal issues. He's a drama queen and the source of annoying KATisms. That's it. By NBA star standards, he's a saint.
