I think we get to swept up in superstars because we're trained to do so.

That's not how the NBA has been run, marketed and... delivered... for the better part of its existence.

The Lakers win with Mikan... unless he's injured.
Bill Russell is the key to the Celtics titles.
Magic.
Bird.
Jordan.
James.

It's a superstar league. Guys like Sam Jones, Dennis Johnson, James Worthy and even Steve Kerr or Jim Paxson obviously help... but the superstars drive wins. Fans. Everything.

Absolutely, but it's REALLY hard to win a title without your top one or two guys healthy. Unless the other team you are playing is hurt too, if you are deep but missing your top 1 or 2 guys, it won't matter against a team with its top guys in tact. Stars have more of an impact on team performance in the NBA than other sports. May be QB in today's NFL is the only comparison in terms of being reliant on a singular type player.

Aren't players ( in multiple sports)collectively bargaining to practice less ? Between less practice time and load management I don't see how being over worked is causing these injuries.
The athletes may be changing but the sport they play in is relatively unchanged for 50 years. Maybe bulking up on an already much larger than average body is part of the problem. Our body's and joints are built to sustain only so much mass. Compound that by jumping , running, and beating ones body into other larger than average bodies is bound to cause problems.
