Flip probably figured he could guarantee himself saving the Thad OPT-IN money and getting the KG deal done sooner rather than later excites the players now? He's using the last 30 games as a prep for next year so might as well get KG on board now so we can start next season fast.

Also, get Thad out so the young guys play.....Payne, AB, Towns....and KG gets a few limited minutes...

Well, Towns is still in college, Payne is an unproven rookie who is almost as old as Thad, and AB has sucked so far. Color me skeptical, but if KG can somehow coax these guys to play defense while providing 15 minutes of productive minutes himself, I'll definitely warm up.

Not impressed for now.

Guys, forget the KG trade for a minute and comment on the fact that it's all we did today. And tell me what the plan could possibly be with this terribly constructed roster right now.

That's the plan. This team is so piss poor at player development that they need someone that they won't easily tune out. These kids grew up watching him. They respect him, and anything KG does,, wild or not, will prove to us who is receptive and who isn't.

Not saying this will happen, but imagine if learning under KG allows Payne to develop a reliable baseline jumper or a spin cycle for Towns or even Bennett, it will go a long way, because up to now, I can't attribute whatever development these pups have made so far to Flip or the organization.

So Flip is basically outsourcing defense, player development, and developing a winning culture to KG. Sounds like an indictment of the coaching staff to me!

Gary Neal's people pushing for a buyout didn't help matters. Budinger being a broken man didn't help either.

Fact is, we have maybe 4 of the 10 worst players in the NBA right now (Neal, Budinger, Bennett, LaVine). You're not gonna get anything for those guys.

All we can do is buy them out and/or wait for them to expire

It's a coaching staff that is only here because they're the only guys Flip knew. Hell, Glen hired Flip because of the idea that Flip knew more people!

Man, I hope the pups made friends and networked all all-star weekend because if anything, this is a very insular franchise in a league where who you know will take you far. This team keeps to itself, which doesn't bode well anywhere. Nobody's gonna do Flip or this team any favors. If it wasn't for Bill Duffy being Flip's college roommate, how would we get talent here?

Zero hope for Lavine, huh?

We have the roster space for KG and he still wants to play a little. No harm in trading for him because it rids us of Thad who isn't a long term solution. The team is constructed..

Rubio/LaVine/Neal
KMart/LaVine/Wig
Wig/Bazz/Bud/GR3
Rookie/AB/Payne/Hummel/KG
Pek/Dieng/KG

Hated the selection then. Still hate it now.

Met the guy a couple of times. Good kid. Good attitude. Too bad he sucks at basketball.

But neither is KG... And as everybody that loves this trade continues to overlook, we could have signed him in free agency this summer! If you're going to trade/dump Thad because he isn't a long-term piece, though just 26-years old, then actually pursue a long-term piece such as that of a young player with promise or a first round pick. A 38-year old who plans on retiring before Thad turns 30 just makes no sense, especially if you're trying to justify the move based on your long-term goal(s).
