Don't look now, but this kid is starting to come around a bit. His numbers are improving on the year and Barca has won 9 straight, with him starting in two of those games.

The minutes are so up and down and sample size so small, it's hard to really discern much from it. Nevertheless, the trend is improvement and that's about as much as we can hope for.

LOVE the optimism, Q! But is it tongue in cheek, because I'm not seeing much. I see one interesting game back on Jan 24 when he scored 8 points and has 6 assists in 30 minutes. But it was a 42-point blowout, so you have to wonder how much of that was garbage time. And I don't see much other than that game. Am I looking at a bad source?

But let's just say Bolmaro becomes Manu, McDaniels achieves the ceiling possible from the 7th best HS player in the country his senior year, and Ant continues to progress like he has the last 10 games (17-4-3 and 40% on threes). If, if, if. But IF...would this be considered the greatest draft in Wolves history?

I don't know......when his name was announced, I had never heard of him. It led me to watch a bunch of video's of highlights. I am not sure I saw even a "highlight" that connected with what our organization obviously saw as promise. I saw a couple like 50 foot bounce passes....which never happen in the NBA. He was just a really curious pick given what I see as lack of upside and position of need.

Yeah, I wasn't crazy about the pick (see my comments earlier in this thread).

My only point is that his numbers are trending in the right direction. I am not quite ready to fire up a new bandwagon like I did with Vando and Nowell, both of whom I watched extensively in the G-League last year.

But as Mikkeman mentions, it's really hard to suss out the NBA potential of young talent in Europe based on stats alone. I think old-fashioned scouting may be more important in the absence of regular minutes.

Yep I know nothing really about the player, I know he was considered the best stash player. Our European posters have said its tough to show nba potential based on European stats. I also think Rosas get some benefit of doubt how he has found good young prospects (the only thing he gets the benefit of doubt on)

He had another solid game earlier today. When you watch his highlights, he "looks" like he has an NBA-caliber game and athletic profile. But again, really hard to tell his readiness without a steady diet of minutes and watching him play a few full games.

I personally think the backup PG role is his to lose next year, as we will likely trade Ricky's expiring contract this offseason and I don't see any sense in re-signing McLaughlin, who has been a major disappointment after showing a lot of promise last season.

I think it is extremely rare that 20 year old guards play legit minutes in Euroleague and perform well. Rubio and Doncic were exceptions and were high lottery picks because of that. So I wouldn't yet give up on Bolmaro.

Here are some examples of NBA players stats in Euroleague at same age or in their first Euroleague year.

Bjelica: 9 mins, 1.2 pts and 1.7 rbs with 25 fg% and he was already 22.

Bogdan Bogdanovic: 17.5 mins, 5 pts, 1.8 rbs, 1 asts with 30.3 fg%

Joe Ingles: 15.7 mins, 5 pts, 1.1 rbs, 1.2 asts, 46.2 fg% 23.3 3pt% and he was 23.

Most impressive part of Bolmaro's game is his passing. His per 36 minutes assists numbers are pretty close to Rubio's last Euroleague season numbers.

I obviously have no opinion on his actual play and numbers given the lack of translation, but if I recall correctly, Euro assists aren't the same as NBA assists in that in the NBA they are a lot more liberal with shelling them out.

That's correct Hockey.

Those numbers Mikkeman presents on former European prospects are interesting. I think their developmental systems are much more team-oriented and structured versus the AAU system in the U.S. where individual virtuosity and playing tons and tons of games is more predominant. As a result, it's easy to scout and start projecting a U.S. player's NBA potential much earlier than Euro players.

Yes, Bolmaro has shown nice improvement this year. Last year he got minutes mainly in blowout wins and meaningless games but this year he has got minutes as regular rotation guy even though Barcelona's main backup point Heurtel has been back from injury.

Bolmaro is obviously still far from sure thing as for example last NBA players from Barcelona team Abrines and Hezonga both had arguably better stats as same age. Both did also show nice improvement in their play in Spain but in NBA they didn't show any improvement after their rookie season.

Bolmaro has been much better at drawing fouls and has better handle and court vision than either of those players though. So I believe he should be better suited for NBA. At least I feel that Euro guards that won't have those abilities tend to fail in NBA much more often.
