Over/Under on how many complete soccer games SP will watch in his lifetime, ill set the number at 0!

- I can watch 45 minutes of commercial free action, take a 15 minute break, then watch another 45 minutes of continuous action and it's all done at that point. Sooooo much more convenient than all the stops, timeouts, starts, and commercials of most other U.S. major sports.

- True, scoring is rare, but man, when someone scores, it's a big freakin' deal! Makes it all the more dramatic.

- Yes, there is a bit of a wussy factor with the feigned injuries in order to try to draw a free kick or penalty, but it's not much different than the antics used in other sports (like NBA players' foul-drawing tactics and flopping).

- There are some parallels with basketball in that players have to play both offense and defense, with frequent changes of possession. There is also a lot of emphasis placed on both on-ball skills and off-ball skills with movement. If I were a young father trying to raise a basketball star, I'd have my son or daughter play soccer as well.

- It's fun rooting for the U.S. in a situation where they are clearly behind the rest of the Western world and South America in a major sport. That's not normally the case (on the men's side at least). But, it appears we may be starting to catch up. The US men's team is comprised mostly of young guys between 18 and 22, some of whom are making noise in top European leagues on their club teams.

Of course, none of this will probably convince anyone here that's already made up his mind not to watch soccer! But for those of you with a sliver of open-mindedness about it, I highly recommend it!

Personally, I've been in on soccer enough to hit a World Cup once... but I'm not a fan of the leagues.

Mostly US Men's team. My fandom of the club leagues is mostly in service of the Americans that play on those squads in terms of tracking their progress. Again, we've got some really young talent playing fairly significant roles for Prem League, La Liga, Bundesliga, etc. clubs.

I'm following US men's soccer which is in the midst of qualifiers for the next World Cup. They basically have one window of play per month where they travel to be with the national team and play 2-3 games. There are a total of 14 games played over a series of multiple windows. How they do in those 14 games - most of which will have no more than 2 or 3 goals scored cumulatively - will determine if they go to Qatar or not.

Anywho, the contrast between what is at stake with each window, each game, and each goal is enormous compared to what's at stake in the NBA for each week, each game, each basket. In other words, yes, we should win this game tonight. No, it's not the end of the world if we lose and if DLO goes 0-4 from 3 with 5 turnovers it doesn't mean he'll suck the rest of the season.

That being said.....Go Wolves!

I also DVR or Bally App the games . . . I have a handful of neighbors that I watch most games with over Long Island Tea's and well directed ridicule. All of us played and most of us coached so everyone is a know it all. It's a real world microcosm of this board.
