I just look at the results. Nowell averaged 25.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and an eFG over 50% in 3 of his 4 Summer League games. I don't think there's another player in Summer League, including guys who've had more college and NBA experience than Nowell, who had better stats than Nowell in this year's Summer League.
There are others, including well-known guys like Obi Toppin + Jaylen Green + Paul Reed or unknowns like Bones Hyland + Omer Yurtseven who were comparable.
Yep. Four players comparable to Nowell. My point was that I didn't think any other player had better Summer League stats than Nowell. Maybe two of them, Bane and Maxey, but not by much. I'm not proclaiming Nowell a future allstar. I was just responding to what I thought was some excessive negativity that doesn't align with the numbers.

Sure. Seems like Nowell did better than what a quick glimpse through the comments might suggest. He's already proven he's a serviceable-at-worst pro.
But he wasn't THE standout of summer league. I posted 9 players with better or equal stats. But there were more, too. He did well and it should be a good sign of his competence as an NBA player. But like our fascination with McDaniels... A LOT of teams/fanbases have players in similar situations/trajectories.
Interestingly, Sam Vecine from The Athletic posted an article today about 10 players who were "too good for summer league" this year. Nowell wasn't one of them. (McDaniels was a reserve though.)
[Note: Pritchard averaged 20+ ppg, had 26 assists and only 4 TOs... AND shot 58% on 9 three pointers per game!]
Yeah, I guess I had bigger expectations for Nowell. My #1 issue with him continues to be his inability to translate his 3-point accuracy in college and the G-League to NBA competition. For someone who ultimately will never be a great defender, finisher, or playmaker, he's going to have to make his mark as a shot maker. We need him to be a guy that hangs around 40% from 3 in order to be a difference maker for us off the bench. There has been no sign yet that he's capable of doing that.

Abe - I never suggested that Nowell was THE standout in Summer League. I just don't think anyone performed better, or certainly significantly better, than he did in Summer League. I'm not fascinated with Nowell or McDaniels. But I'm pleased with what I've seen from both of them both last season and in this year's Summer League. And I don't think anyone on this Board has gone overboard on either one. I'm certainly higher on McDaniels than I am on Nowell, but McDaniels also has a long way to go before he becomes more than a good 3&D guy.

On that we agree, Q. You're right in my view that the key to Nowell being a really positive rotation guy is getting his 3-point percentage close to 40%. If he can do that he'll be very solid. While he likely won't be a great defender, he looks like he'll be a good one. He also looks like he'll be an excellent mid-range shooter and he's a good ballhandler.
