Lip... yes and no.
Remember, Denver does have Michael Porter Jr. The difference is whether those teams go "all in" on high upside when the potential for failure is higher, too.
Let's not forget that Bolmaro is probably the biggest project of the bunch. He's at least a year away... and I read that he actually regressed last season. He might be the biggest longshot of the bunch. But it's definitely part of Rosas' strategy:
"We need talent in the stage that we are in. Getting guys that are more ready to play in the NBA and get us marginal wins has a limited ceiling," said Rosas. "I'd love to be in a situation where we are winning 50 games a year and are in the playoffs. We aren't there yet. We have to take bets. We have to take developmental projects. We have to take the highest upside."

Personally, I think that if you have two young "stars" on your team making near max money, Russell and Towns... and you're still playing this game claiming that the cupboards are bare -- those star players aren't nearly good enough. Or, the GM is trying to dupe the fans to buy himself more time.

The Leandro Bolmaro pick was an absolute reach. The fact Gersson Rosas traded up for him was just the cherry on top of it being a head-scratcher. I have yet to find anyone that likes that pick outside of the Wolves front office.

Yikes that quote is a bummer. We're still not ready to win? Hasnt 15 years been long enough? I like taking bets, but some proven D and shooting would be nice too.

A team with a #1 draft pick ($28M) and a #2 pick ($28M) and another #1 pick... still needs to take random flyers hoping to land superstar talent... just to be respectable.
And we keep falling for this approach.

FWIW I think I read he is one of 4 players in the Euro league to have a 10 assist game before their 20th birthday. He did it in 19 mins.

What level? He has 46 total assists in 27 games at the highest level. While shooting 33%.

Also it's worth mentioning here that if people want to see more international stats of guys Than basketball reference has then look up their profile on Realgm. They even have the super important summer league stats!!! :)
Edit:
Here is a link to the story. It was the Spanish ACB league (Not Euroleague) which is the one of the leagues Rubio And his teams played in before he came over.

I don't recall anyone questioning Michael Porter's competitiveness, work ethic or love of the game. The concerns with him related to his injury history. I agree that Bolmaro is a big project and I didn't like the pick, but at least his competitiveness and basketball IQ aren't in question. My point is that the top organizations generally don't draft prospects with serious questions related to their competitiveness, motor or love of the game - at least not in the lottery.
I absolutely agree that shooting for the highest upside reflects doubt in your two "stars."

How was it a reach when it was widely presumed that Boston would take him at 26 since they didn't have the roster space to take on 3 first rounders?
