Not getting to watch Walker Kessler is a downer, but I expect Wendell Moore Jr. and Matteo Spagnolo to be highly entertaining, as well as Leandro Bolmaro and Josh Minott. I don't know when you'll get a better Summer League roster over the next decade! But that also likely means the Timberwolves are winning a lot of games.
Bolmaro was included in the Utah trade. That was the Final Straw!!!! Lol jk
Ahh! I'm already forgetting who's still on the roster! No Leandro Bolmaro, not worth it!
Same it's quite the exodus of players. If there was a year to watch a lot of summer league games this would be it. What do I mean by that? I would not be surprised to see the Wolves end up with another player on their roster in some way that came from summer league.
I'm also seriousness even though Balmaro and Kessler won't be on the roster there is still plenty of compelling players. There are a number of guys from the Iowa Wolves playing and if Spagnolo does actually play that will be exciting. Minott will probably be worth tuning in on his own. Plus there are 3 Iowa State players!!! Lol
So who am I interested in seeing that wasn't drafted by the Wolves or played for Iowa last year? I guess I'll go with Lip's guy Phillip Wheeler. He turned 20 in April and skipped his senior year of HS to work on his game in Europe instead going to a development program. The Wolves did sign him to an exhibit 10 contract which means he technically is on their roster but usually that means they are hoping to make a guy like him an affiliate player. Still that kind of contract means they probably like him more than some other guys. He looks like a somewhat intriguing SF although some people call him a PF.
Well we have already got some games happening before Vegas. The California league happened and the Utah league started today. Keegan Murray has at least one Kings fan excited.
Wolfson reported on his latest podcast that Theo John is injured and won't be able to play in SL. That's too bad I like his game plus the Wolves could use some size. I'm looking forward to seeing who else they picked up to play.

I love his passion, he looks like he's having fun out there. Wheeler has some handles, athletic dunks, and runs hard in fast break situations. Doesn't seem like he can shoot that well and to me his form might need fixing. This seems like the type of raw 20 year old talent we should be considering to find some value down the road. I'll be excited for Summer League and to see if this Wheeler kid is still a top you and Lip's list after a few games.
I'm here in Vegas. Doing my pregame prep for tomorrow night. :) I'll be focused on four players on the Wolves Summer League roster: Moore, Minott, Spagnolo and Kevon Harris. The first two will be on the Wolves roster next season. Spagnolo's an intriguing talent. Rafael Barlowe of draft junkies loves him and spent a lot of time in Europe watching him play and talking with him. I like the videos I've seen of Kevon Harris. He's a long PG with some nice skills. He played for the Raptors G-League affiliate last season and I could see him getting one of the Wolves 2-way deals.

Our man in Vegas! Thanks in advance for all the insights Lip! Nothing like seeing guys in play in person.

Just took a look at Harris's college stats. Definitely a scoring PG rather than a facilitator as he averaged more TOs than assists each year at Stephan Austin. He seemed to have turned that around though in the G League as his A:TO ratio improved significantly. Unfortunately his very good college 3-point shooting (over 40% his final three years on about 4.5 attempts per game) regresses to 30% in the G League. Let's see what Kevon shows up, and whether he can use that size and athleticism to defend.
I suspect we'll be getting updates from you on Wheeler too...he's an intriguing story.

It seems like there is a change in philosophy for the Wolves in terms of guards. The smallest guy on the roster is Brown at 6'3". I don't know his wingspan. Gone is Wright who played well in Iowa last year and Isaiah Miller too. I think Miller is playing for Utah if you want to see some sweet dunks. Both guys were undersized but guys with defensive chops.
It looks like the Wolves are going more for guys with SG length or bigger with some level of playmaking skills. That makes sense if you think eventually Edwards become a guy that has the ball a lot. Why not play the biggest guy you can next to him defensively? If this is the case I hope they don't completely dismiss smaller guys as options because McLaughlin I think is a good rotation player but I also see the benefit in looking for bigger players.
