I agree with Q about not playing Cov at the 4. Seems like we are taking away his greatest advantage, and begging teams to post him up. Cov like most of our team doesn't have a really strong base to move to the 4.

My biggest concern with the team overall is with Saunders. Hopefully having more wings will allow him to cut Wig's minutes considerably. It is the only thing this team hasn't tried with Wig. Wig's was completely defiant when Saunders instituted his silly practice game scoring techniques, stating that he would still take the long twos when he felt comfortable. If Culver or Okogie look up to it, I would pull Wig out of the starting lineup the first time he goes against our offensive plan.

I am also on board with Cam on re-signing Taj. I thought he was the best move THibs made while in charge.

Ya I want teams posting up Cov, post defense you are allowed to hammer guys and really fight them down low, so I will take them trying to make contested 2 pt shots over cov than 3s.

I don't think Cov's body can hold up playing the majority of his minutes at the 4 but I believe he can play 30-40% of his minutes at the 4

I consider his greatest advantage to be his perimeter D, and ability to switch and recognize what offenses are trying to do. I see no reason to allow a team to take that away. Covington has a very weak base and isn't exactly a youngster. The last thing I want is to put him into position to be punished physically.

He might. But he is 34, so I doubt anyone goes more than 2 years with him....maybe 3. But he seems like a perfect fitto go to a team like the Lakers when they miss out on their 3rd superstar.

Hes going to get punished regardless because that's the way he plays.

Outside of us, there just aren't many teams that play 2 bigs anymore, especially 2 that can post up. Maybe just detroit?

The game is more space and pace, so i think his size isn't a concern. My concern is what are we going to do when teams keep hammering us by putting teague and kat in pnr. Thats where the lack of weak side help size is going to hurt us. But i think a good scheme will help. Wiggs, cov, culver, and okogie are all long and can get up, so they theoretically should be able to slide over and get a hand up.

What team has a PF, that will punish him though. Right now in the west projected starting PF.

Warriors: Plays on the perimeter
Spurs: Aldridge would kill Cov
Clippers: Harrell would hurt Cov
Kings: Belly won't
Lakers: He's guarding LBJ in any matchup
Grizzlies: Don't have anyone
Mavs: Don't have anyone
Pelicans: Zion could hurt him, TBD
Suns: have nobody


I just don't think many teams PF can punish Cov. Also its not like that is the only position Cov will play. I mean he played over a 1000 possessions at PF with the sixers

A lot of teams have cap space. Millsap is getting 2/20 min. We don't have that amount of money to pay him that

I personally think what Covington does best on defense is team defense. The guy is an unbelievable help defender. You mentioned his recognition I agree with that. He gets his hands on so many balls and covers up for guys. He isn't a point of attack man defender (he is good there) his real value is when he gets to play off and diagnose like you said.

Covington playing the 4 reminds me of Thad Young only Covington is like an elite version of all the stuff Young did. Putting Covington in a place we're you may be funneling guys to...OMG that sounds like fun. Getting steals ripping the ball out of people's hands like they are all Andrew Wiggins...lol. Heck he even blocks shots. Then if you switch everything your PF gets on a PG fine. Oh and he is a pine 3 point shooter than can sorta grab and go a bit. I'm not sold on it but it is intriguing. It also feels like KBD could come in and play a sorta similar role as a PF. I don't think they are gonna play him there full time but maybe starting the game and finishing he game it may make a ton of sense.
