Bell was the guy I wanted the summer we traded for Butler. I recall lamenting that Thibodeau didn't get Chicago to include their 2nd round pick (a high one) in the Butler deal. I concluded at the time that there was no way the Bulls were going to torpedo the deal based on the Wolves insistence that they include their 2nd round pick. As it turned out, the Bulls ended up selling that pick to GS for cash and the Warriors used it to draft Jordan Bell. As Crazy pointed out, he was the Brandon Clarke of that draft.
Well, we finally got him. :) A game-changer? No. But a nice pick-up.
Yup, he was absolutely the guy I wanted with that 2nd too. Unfortunately,, Khansy is right....he has turned out to be not the brightest bulb in the box. I have little hope our culture will get the most out of him, but I guess there isn't much to lose. He's still young (ish) and the tools are there.
I think the possible positive here COULD be he may actually get consistent playing time. What I remember hearing is Kerr would sorta switch around who would play the other big man spot all the time. I have similar concerns but maybe a more regular role might help. Still it was the Warriors pulling a guy. We are a team that would be thrilled to make the playoffs. He might be pretty useful to a team like us. He is sort of the profile of the type of guy this team needs.
He is, but if the Warriors couldn't straighten him out in terms of bball IQ and attitude, we certainly won't be able to. We'll see. He has to beat out Dieng for PT and Gorgui actually came on strong the last 20-30 games or so.

GS is a good franchise but I don't think they are Spurs or even the Raptors in terms of talent evaluation and development. They have had some nice things happen there though. Obviously they are miles better than we have been (the bar is so low you have to jump over a ditch) but maybe things will be different now.
Regardless I think Bell despite his WTF moments probably will do enough to be worthy of some minutes. Guys that are backups...are for good reasons. Bell might be a good compliment to Towns and Dieng. It's a worthwhile gamble and these are the type of things we need to do and hope we get one or more right.
It's worth remembering though that at the end of his tenure in GS, he couldn't make the rotation of a Warriors team with a really thin bench.
Also, can we take a second to pour one out for Taj Gibson, who Bell is partly replacing and who was arguably our third or fourth best player on the court last year. I'd rank our guys (#1 Towns, #2 Cov, #3/4 Rose and Taj about equal). Taj was old school and affiliated with Thibs, but we shouldn't let those things negatively affect our evaluation of that guy. He worked really hard and was really efficient for us. I'm gonna miss him and I'm afraid the team will as well.
I don't think Bell not making the rotation in the championship is that big a deal he sat for D. Green, D. Cousins, K. Looney and Bogut had a few mins probably because he matched up better against M. Gasol more than anything. That's not a massive knock on Bell, he never really developed due to being buried on a great team. Is he some super sleeper? No, Is he a good addition on a 1 year prove it deal? Yeah probably. Hell I wish we had a team option for year two. He's young athletic, solid defensively and has plenty of room to grow with some playing time.
Just in case some of you dont know what he was suspended for:
So, as all teams do IN EVERY PROFESSIONAL SPORT, the vets mess with the rookies because it's just a "rite of passage" to say the least. So what had happened was last year, when he was a rookie, his teammates would put LITTLE THINGS on his room, candy bars, sodas, etc etc
So J Bell starting getting people back as a JOKE. He'd charge Wi-fi to KD or Q Cook's room AS A JOKE(WiFi is usually free). It was nothing major EVER & it's a INSIDE TEAM JOKE, so everyone knew about it.
On their last trip HE CHARGED A CANDLE(NOT porn, you heathens) to Mike Brown's room. A $15 CANDLE!!!!!! to his room & obvs Mike Brown wasn't in on the joke, so he got his feelings hurt & thought he had been paying for stuff the whole time. Smh

Interesting. FWIW Bryan Oringer who used to work for the Wizards said on Twitter that Mike Brown Is like OCD about EVERY detail. Said its common knowledge that he keeps receipts and all that for everything. He said Bell probably should have known not to do something like that to Mike Brown who is anal about that stuff. Maybe it wasn't a huge deal. There has been chatter about him having some issues for a while and I remembering hearing somewhere in the last few months that there were some issues in college and that was actually part of the reason he fell to the 2nd round. I don't know if he is a bad guy or just weird/different like say Beasley.
