But I hate that a season ticket holder is so willing to accept a team tanking its final 25 games of a season (after tanking the first 13 games) of the season just to move up 2 or 3 spots in the mid lottery.

If the people shelling out money to see the product don't give a shit about winning... why would anybody else. I know I've blamed Glen Taylor for the level of malaise about winning in this organization. Maybe I'm wrong.

Maybe it's the hardcore fans.

This is NOT the type of tanking a good franchise does. To still be doing this sort of tanking with the full endorsement of the team's most ardent fans 12 years in is a fucking embarrassment to all of us.

NBA action...it's faaaannntastic!!!!

There's no possible benefit to winning 37 games instead of 34, but there might very well be a huge cost. We already played to make the playoffs a few weeks longer than we really should have. If the front office falls in love a with a player at the 8 spot, would you rather be at 8 already or pay a future FRP to move up from 12 (if the team at 8 would even do that) because we stubbornly insisted on playing our banged up vets to win 3 more pointless games? You have to know when to pick your battles on "building a winning culture" and this isn't one of those times. I'm actually impressed with the decision to soft tank at this point and really not sure how anyone can argue with it...

Absolutely right! As a season ticket holder, winning an extra two or three games the last month of the season with no chance of making the playoffs means nothing to me. Wha does matter to me is hope for the future and that hope resides primarily in our draft position and the development of our current young guys - Okogie, KBD, Saric, Tyus Jones and Reynolds. As you indicated, you pick your battles on "building a winning culture" and this isn't one of those times.

I'll add that you can't build a winning culture without winning talent. Right now the Wolves focus has to be on acquiring and developing young talent to meld with KAT and Covington. So play the young guys for evaluation and development while reducing KAT's and Andrew's minutes. Then just let the chips fall when it comes to wins and losses the rest of this season. Meanwhile, let's get a really good PBO for once and focus intently on the upcoming draft.

It's been said plenty of times on here, but Minnesota should have moved the veterans on expiring deals -- Taj Gibson, Derrick Rose, Anthony Tolliver -- as well as Tyus Jones, at or before the trade deadline. I refuse to believe those four had no value to teams chasing the playoffs and beyond, which is likely the same reason the Wolves kept them as they too were hoping to see the postseason. Now there's a solid chance that they all walk this summer with nothing in return for Minnesota.

The Pelicans received four second-round picks and a serviceable wing for Nikola Mirotic.

The Grizzlies got a decent guard and center as well as a second-round pick for an old Marc Gasol.

The Celtics received a conditional second-round pick for Jabari Bird.

The Pelicans received an expiring contract in Markieff Morris and a second-round pick for Wesley Johnson.

The Pistons received a cheap prospect and a second-round pick for Reggie Bullock.

The Cavaliers received two second-round picks for Rodney Hood.

The Bulls received two second-round picks for Justin Holiday.

The Cavaliers received two second-round picks for an old Kyle Korver.

I think those are enough examples from this year to show that there likely would have been interest in our guys. I believe Minnesota's management just sat on their hands and/or didn't recognize the situation before them, which wouldn't be the first time.

Absolutely right, Cam! A number of us expressed that view back shortly before the trade deadline. Although a playoff spot was still within reach at the time, it was clear this team was a 7thor 8th seed at best and probably would end up in the lottery anyway. And it was certainly clear by then that this team needed to retool around KAT for the long haul if it had any hope of ever contending.

You provide a lot of good examples that strongly suggest the Wolves could have gotten decent value for Tolliver, Taj and Rose. Those are precisely the types of vets that contending teams love to get for a stretch run. I know that 2nd round picks don't excite the fan base and typically don't pan out. But when you're rebuilding or retooling it's all about accumulating assets. Adding a couple 2019 2nd round picks with our Miami 2nd round pick could have cumulative value in a trade this summer -- trading up in the draft or some other deal. Meanwhile, Tolliver and Taj will likely leave after this season and neither one nor Derrick Rose can be viewed as long term pieces with KAT. The imperative at the time was to get something for them rather than just let them walk for nothing.

Once again, what we saw back at the trade deadline was a Wolves' organization that just isn't very smart -- an organization with no sense of where they're at and no strategic vision. As I mentioned before, this isn't rocket science, yet the Wolves ownership and front office make it seem like quantum physics.

That sounds like more of Amazon Prime or Netflix thing.

Yeah you are right. I would have put more effort into my summery of the film but this is a tanking thread so...

I watched the game and had a couple thoughts.

I thought the Hornets defended him well and kinda got in his head. He was dealing some ill advised passes but I like the idea of him taking some chances. He also had some passes where he whipped an complete on target bullet across court to someone. His passing is REALLY coming along.

Tyus I think is improving in looking for and getting his shot but yeah he isn't showing he is a starter in this league. It kinda sucks.

Does anyone else think Dieng should keep the weight off and get back to being a weird quicker player even though he isn't the quickest guy? I like what I have seen out of him the past few games. I'm not suggesting he is a guy that should be getting clear rotation minutes or something but he just has more juice right now than I've seen in a while. If the goal is to have a plan to be good a couple years from now they shouldn't sign any vet bigs and actually play Dieng and hope you can up his value so next season or later when he only has one year left on his deal some team might be willing to take him on in exchange for something more useful etc. I thought it was interesting how they were switching everything with Dieng on the floor. Switching everything is the most interesting thing but Dieng has looked...not like he will just get roasted all year and now he is a bit quicker. Teams that are in sorta bad shape in terms of their roster get something out of guys like Dieng. His ball handling looks better this year and makes quicker decisions also.

Ultimately the team played hard but didn't win so...um...that's not bad?!

oh and Wiggins had like 2 dunks. What does that give him for the season like 8? lol

I'll never understand why people paying money for something wouldn't care if they're intentionally getting ripped off.

There are families out there who have purchased tickets for the family and are paying $500+ to see the team sit players and try to lose. The tickets are already purchased. They're stuck with them. Or, they want to go... and it's not like the Wolves are cutting prices as they try to tank.

And other fans are cool with this for a 5% better chance to move up one or two spots in a draft lottery... letting the inept billionaires/millionaires in charge of ripping them off be in charge of it. Again... After 15 years of it not working.

Ummm... Ok.

[Note: If we're still bailing out the Wolves this far in as they INTENTIONALLY tank 25 games out of 82... we deserve to lose Towns. And we deserve to remain the worst franchise in NBA history.]

Fool me once... anybody spending good money on this team after this long deserves what they're getting. I would not go to a game unless the tix were free until this team shows they're worth it, and even then I'd feel guilty spending $12 or whatever they charge for a beer. The Wolves are the NBA equivalent of a NASCAR wreck, only you don't have to watch for hours for it to happen.

There is no we, nobody on this board is responsible for the disaster on the court. As for being the worst franchise in NBA history, at least they're number one at something!

Wiggins has been on fire since we started tanking. Greatest no stakes young talent in the league. We should be luring some top notch free agents for sure
