Milwaukee went from 25th in 3PTAs last season to 2nd this season, mostly with the same roster, but with a new coach. It basically took one training camp to make this huge leap.
What is innovative is the way Ryan is trying to go about changing habits. That is a very good sign of some fresh thinking in this organization......finally!!!
Q you did not mention Brook Lopez at C. Adding him was a pretty big factor in the 3 point uptick.
Good point, but they upped their 3pta by 14 attempts! He certainly is a part of that, but it's mostly coaching, as most players on the roster are at career highs in 3pta, including Lopez himself.
I'm not a fan of forcing up a bunch of contested 3's or passing up wide open 2's for contested 3's (this is what Houston often does) because I think that can be exploited in a long playoff series. But what we can't be doing is taking two dribbles in and then pulling up for a contested 2 (one of Wiggins' favorite shots). That shot needs to be completely extinguished unless we're in a shot clock situation.
When you're right you're right. Wig is the biggest culprit when it comes to taking contested, long 2's. I don't mind him doing his dream shake when he gets the ball in the post, but dribbling to just inside the 3 point line to take a 21 footer is just bad basketball. As far as the Bucks go, I've been a fan since 1970 and watch nearly all their games. Coach Bud should be coach of the year as he's taken them from plucky playoff team to legitimate contender. They shoot a ton of 3's while having a bunch of good but not great shooters. It's proof you can benefit from the shot even if you don't have Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. The Bucks are also proof that the right coach and system can make a huge difference in the win column. By the way, Malcolm Brogdon is a really good player. I think he's the 2nd most valuable player they have.

I agree with you on Bud for coach of the year, Cool. And you're right that what we're seeing this season from the Bucks illustrates the profound difference a head coach can make in the NBA. And yes, you don't need a bunch of great 3-point shooters to benefit from the shooting the three. Dallas beat the Wolves Friday night not because they shot better from behind the arc. In fact, the Wolves had a better 3-point shooting percentage that game. The Mavs won because they took 14 more threes than the Wolves. If the Wolves had simply cut the disparity in three-point attempts to 7, the Wolves would have won the game.
