Since we're discussing the past and what would have been best, let's just think about how much better this franchise would be if Flip had gotten the Warriors to offer Klay Thompson in a trade package for Kevin Love. We very well might have changed the entire league and the last several years are much different. Golden State wouldn't be a dynasty -- Draymond Green might never have gotten an opportunity to shine with Love being there. Kevin Durant probably doesn't leave Oklahoma City. Andrew Wiggins wouldn't be a Timberwolf, but he probably wouldn't be a Cavalier either as I suspect Cleveland would have dealt him for a different star, perhaps the Derrick Favors trade that was rumored at the time. Oh, and LeBron likely would have won the last five NBA Finals improving his overall legacy by 1000%.
I certainly can't say that Flip made a mistake in the package he chose. It is fun to think about how that one move -- Love to GS -- that never happened could have changed the entire scope of the league.

The reports were later that Klay was never available. I think Jerry west flat purbsaid that months later on a radio interview but so could be wrong. I think if you wanted to do a what of type of situation it would be getting Wiggins in that deal and then moving him in a year or 2 while either keeping Thad young around or keeping the draft pick we gave up to get him. The trade flip got was actually pretty impressive the later execution you can poke holes in. If Bennett actually had value to someone (hard to say) dealing him would have been nice too...if you want to go down every what if road. :)

Donovan Mitchell might not be efficient but that team just needs someone to be dynamic and get some buckets. After him especially with Hood gone they just don't have much in the way of scoring. He has just been massive plus even as a rookie he seems to be far from a liability on defense so getting a young 20ppg high volume scorer that also plays defense...that's an incredible add especially when you have a team that's basically built to complement a guy that can score. Crowder doesn't have the best stats but it seems like he has helped them since coming over for Hood as well.

But to me, so much of what makes the Jazz so great can be tied to Gobert. They got hot after he came back, if I recall. And I remember watching our game against them when he was playing this year and he just really affected our offense in such a significant way.
Yes, Gobert is huge for them. But a key to their season was the way they've stayed afloat when he's been out. But yes, Gobert's rim protection is game-changing. He's another guy, like Giannis, who Flip could have drafted in 2014. :(
I don't know if they stayed afloat without Gobert. They were 9-17 without him this year. Making them 30-13 with him. Huge difference. They are 20-4 since Gobert return from his last injury.
The huge thing is when he came back they had a really tough part of their schedule and some players like Ingles and Rubio just went off with their 3 pt shot. Ingles shot like 56% from 3 during their winning streak and Rubio was on fire after having a terrible year. They destroyed their tough part of their schedule with unrealistic shooting numbers. Now they have a super easy schedule so they got hot at the right time. I still really want them in the playoffs. But good for them.
Thanks, Geek. I didn't realize their record without Gobert was that bad. In any event, there's no escaping the fact that Gobert is the key to their team. Imaging if we had him instead of Gorgui.
Imagine the greek freek instead of Bazz.
Or Danny Granger instead of Mccants
Or Allen instead of Marbury
Or Nick Anderson instead of Pooh Richardson
Or anyone else instead of Avery, Flynn, or Ebi.
Ow, I got a cramp.
