- I REALLY liked how we played defense tonight. It felt like we were swarming out there and getting lots of deflections and challenging lots of shots....just very few open lanes and looks for the Pacers.
- KAT and Butler absolutely dominated this game. Loved seeing KAT come out in the 2nd half and on the first possession contest Turner's post shot into an air ball then came down on the other end and calmly sank a 3. He did it on both ends tonight.
- When Wiggins spotted up for 3's or was on the break, he was fine. Whenever he tried putting the ball on the floor in half court sets, he was a total disaster - terrible misses and unforced turnovers. And his free throwing is pathetic for an NBA wing. He was solid defensively tonight.
- Love the way Tyus Jones plays the game. He is still not an NBA-caliber scorer, but I'm not sure he gets much of a chance given the talent that surrounds him. He almost always makes the right play.
- I actually thought Aaron Brooks was very scrappy on defense tonight....hustled his ass off. Offensively, not so good.
- Bjelly is all out of sorts offensively. Looked bad out there.
Yet another game where the opposing team was without one of its top two players, but the fact we absolutely stomped them on the road makes it still a good win.
I agree with Q Towns was dominate on both ends. I also thought other than a couple bad possessions early he was decent. It's good he got some decent minutes tonight. We will need him for this stretch. One thing he should be able to do is knock down some 3's.
Bazz got in and got up some shots. I can't really complain about that too much. On that last possession the rebound came to his guy he didn't really contest the shot went in and he was already headed to the locker room. It looked bad but I probably shouldn't read too much into it either.
Belly is struggling but what he can do is coming through and at least he does some other stuff out there. It's been good he has had some SF matchups to get him out there.
Like Q said the defense was terrific. That offense early was kinda brutal for the Wolves. They just didn't do much and didn't get clicking. They did later and really got it going. I always felt like after they did well early this game was going to be out of hand at some point.
I also agree with Q about Tyus as a scorer. I think a little of that is he isn't asked to do much because he plays with Crawford. It's a good thing it helps him but it also keeps him from doing his thing. You can see it a little more tonight as a starter though. I think he has the skills and savy to become a threat there.
It was a good win and nice to actually empty the bench.
I watched the first half. Anyone who thought Wiggins hit shooting would continue is gonna be terribly disappointed. He seriously looked like he was playing with ice skates and boxing gloves on. His dribbling is so bad, can't even count on him hitting the rim. How many assists has he had on the break like the one to Butler in his career, I jumped out of my seat, couldn't believe it. His game is comical right now.
The defense is definitely coming around, rotation on crisp, Kat is definitely picking it up. Tyus is so fun to watch.
I recall mentioning a while ago that I thought our offense runs better with Tyus at the point. His play so far as a starter with Teague out has confirmed by view. I definitely think he's an NBA-caliber scorer. He's shown that part of his game a number of times this season -- hitting big 3-pointers and getting to the rim. Jim Peterson has profusely praised Tyus's defense. His biggest asset is what appears to be a really high basketball IQ. But he's also very skilled and seem more athletic than many of us initially thought. When you factor in how young he is and the fact that he's had very limited minutes so far at the NBA level, it's pretty exciting to think of how good he can be.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not yet calling for Tyus to be our starting PG and I definitely want Teague back healthy. But Tyus has been impressive, and not just the past couple games.

I guess "NBA-caliber scorer" is subjective.
Personally, I'm not seeing it YET. For his career, he's scoring less than one bucket per 10 MINUTES on the court. He's only shooting about every 5+ minutes. That's woefully below the average PG in the league. And he's actually shooting less this season than in most seasons. He simply lacks the size, athleticism and mindset to be even an average scoring NBA point guard. He's at the very lowest level in the league among rotation guys.
But he's so smart and so good at other things that he seems to be able to overcome his deficiencies to make a big impact on a team like the Wolves with several other capable scorers.

Well said Abe. His usuage rate is comically low at around 10% What Tyus has done each season is hit a higher and higher percentage of the shots he does take which improves his efficiency which is a very nice trend. His progress on the defensive end has been farther than anyone would have expected. Also despite a low usuage rate he still manages to average well over 5 assists a game per 36 minutes. That's kinda impressive in a way.
