Well there is no reason to pay a guy if you think you might make a move at some point. It's not like Lucas is playing or some good vet worth keeping around. If they wanted to keep him they would. Does that mean they will make a move? No but it makes sense to do it. Remember when Lucas was reported to be the obvious 3rd PG? What a joke that was.

So we'll save a little less than half his $1.3 million salary, giving us about $800,000 to put towards the eventual $50 million buy-out of Thibs' contract. :)

We can always go on a trade down for cash money spree on draft night. Nobody does it better than Papa Glen Wolves.

Wolves are well below the salary floor minimum. Unless they plan to take on a chunk of salary in a trade, cutting the salary of Lucas is a small move that is cheap in its nature. I guess it has some practical sense, but it's just such a petty frugal Taylor move.
I agree with Brooklyn that the move is petty unless it is intended to open a roster spot for a player who can contribute more than Lucas -- or unless Lucas actually wanted to be released to pursue another opportunity.
But we have far bigger things to worry about as Wolves fans.

Well the fact that they are below the salary floor makes me think it's even more likely they think they have a chance to make some sort of move. I hadn't thought of that angle. I highly doubt Glen is calling up Thibs and Layden telling them to cut Lucas to save money...espcially when it doesn't even save money at this point. I'd assume they have some basketball reason to let him go which could even be taking on some younger/youngish player to try and develop.

That's my assumption too, Monster. I sure hope that's the case. Anything to generate some interest if not real hope.
