Yep. In my opinion, the only crazy thing the Kings did was drafting this nutcase in the first place. I sense there is a lot of relief in Sac-town this morning.
IDK, for how little they got back in return I wouldn't say relief, I mean the pick is top 3 protected for crying out loud.
If you are the pelicans you do this trade 100 out of 100 times.
I think the main reason for the trade was that Cousins wanted to sign that 200 mil extension this offseason and Kings realized they didn't want to do it. And I assume not many teams around the league would want to do it. Hence not much of a bidding war for Big Cuz.

Stay to the end. I saw that entire episode. It's the earliest signs you see the train accelerate on it way to a horrific trainwreck. I swear you can see Chris Mullin decided instantly to leave the Kings the moment Vivek forces the entire front office to welcome Nik Stauskas with a super duper awkward "Nik Rocks" cry. Even Stauskas was embarrassed.
Remember, this was around the time Vivek was trying to find support for his 4 vs. 5 defensive approach with one cherry picker standing on the other end... I know Cousins has issues. But I don't think people realize how exacerbated they were in Sacramento with the likes of Vivek in charge. Imagine David Kahn with even more clout... that's the KIngs.
Exactly, also think of this scenario the kings suck they get the first pick. Oh wait that is right the 76ers have the right to swap picks with them (also have their 2019 1st) because they traded that and Stauskas for nothing. Vivek and Vlade are garbage.
Unlikely but their is a scenario where the pelicans and kings get top 3 picks. But the pelicans pick is top 3 protected and they have to swap their own pick with the 76ers let's say the 7th pick.
So cousins and Casspi for Evans, Hield, Galloway (who they are cutting) and the 7th pick that is a possibility
Could the Kings go on a fire sale now dealing any vet player possible for picks? It could get interesting.
A few of us have been begging for this already... why aren't more teams trying to deal with Orlando and Sacramento. Time after time... they've proven that they're ending up on the wrong side of the trade.
That team goes right down to Brooklyn's level now. In fact, they might be worse. Lin is returning soon to Brooklyn and that makes them better (Lin + Lopez >> any 2 from the Kings).
And I'd have ZERO faith that the Kings are making the right choices moving forward. There's simply too much evidence to support the opposite take at this point.

I just looked at the Kings draft situation. I had forgotten about some of those deals. I spent too much time in my defense of the deal. So...who should the Wolves be trying to call the Kings about to steal or get paid to take away?
Imagine if the Kings still had that Isaiah Thomas guy. Thomas and Cousins would be enough to build around. Oh well right?

That's the crazy thing... I just looked at that roster. I'm entirely unimpressed.
I don't know. It's not a young team. There's nobody with immense potential languishing on the bench. It really is a terrible situation. As noted, at least Brooklyn has something. They know the Russian owner F'd up by meddling early on. At least they have put two basketball guys more in charge... Sean Marks and Atkinson. So they're going to suck, but at least there's hope that smart guys who know basketball are making the decisions to move forward and that the owner learned from his mistakes.
Sacramento has Vivek running the show. And a woefully unprepared and overwhelmed Vlade Divac as a figurehead. There's no plan. There's no hope. They are starting at Ground Zero.

They have a coach in Dave Joerger that might know more than anyone else. What's crazy? He basically forced the issue to get to...the Kings. So...yeah
Abe there may not be a young star talent with the Kings but I like the potential of some of the young guys. Skal was a guy that months ago was considered one of the top young talents. Malachi Richardson is a guy I liked quite a bit and they got both guys at terrific value spots in last year's draft.
Let me ask this question. Let's assume another team made this move let's say a Memphis or heck even the Nets? Would we be looking at this move differently? I think so. Ultimately not paying Cousins all that money might actually be kinda smart. I think they should have gotten more for him though. We will see what Heild and the draft pick turn out to be. Typically trading superstar talents like Cousins...history isn't on the Kings side.

But that's a big part of why I hate the trade.
Teams are going to be leery of taking Cousins if they don't know whether they'll have him beyond next season.
But if they knew they could take him (for the next 5 years)... they'd offer up more for him. That's the part I don't get.
So at least now the Kings can tank officially and grab a potential star in an allegedly loaded draft right? Not so fast. Even if the Kings plummet down the standings... they might not even get to be rewarded for it. The 76ers have the right to swap picks with them this season.
[Note: And the 76ers get the Kings 2019 1st round pick. Yikes.]
