KG's last game?

Re: KG's last game?
KG literally can't come off the bench. His body can't handle the cool down time between tip and when he would enter the game. He's a token starter or he's riding the bench. He physically can't be a bench guy because of all the work it takes him to get warmed up for the game to be able to play 8 minutes straight.

Hopefully this doesn't come across as too confusing, I'd ask the question this way...
Given KG has been called the best thing to happen to Towns and it's impossible to separate KG's mentorship from Town's success. Would you not sign KG to that contract and risk Town's potentially not being the player he is?
What? Towns is the player he made himself to be. Giving that credit to KG is horrendously disrespectful. KG perhaps made the transition from college to NBA easier in some areas knowledge-wise, but the pure skill set and athleticism Towns possesses has nothing to do with KG sitting on the bench for 44 games.
I assume you didn't fully grasp the question. I fully agree Towns is a great player however, it is impossible to remove KG from the equation. Literally it is impossible, KG helped Towns, that is a fact (how much does not matter) it happened and cannot be undone it is now history. On the other hand KG played so little most would agree he wasn't worth 8 million on the court. So would you gamble Towns future on the $8 million savings?
Personally I would not change one variable that was part of the equation of Towns success.

I think this is an interesting point. We know having a sucessful vet around at the very least made the young guys happy. Why rock that boat for 8million. Especially with another cap bump coinciding with KG's last year. As another poster mentioned next year is not our year to win the championship, as long as we use the cap room we have wisely and figure out the coaching/management situation, there is plenty of room for KG and his 8mil. Pek on the other hand, can go fuck himself.

I'm sorry, but that is just a silly statement. Really? KG's absence from the roster next season could jeopardize Towns' future? Really!?
Who a player becomes is the sum of many parts over many years. In KAT's case, it starts with his God-given physical abilities. Next, it's his work ethic and burning desire to get better. He has said that he never feels like he's good enough. Those attributes - both physical and mental - have by far the biggest influence on his success. I'm not sure how that can be argued. And when it comes to people, let's start with his Dad, because he has had by far more influence on KAT's development than any other human being. And then there is Al Horford, Coach Calipari, Flip Saunders, Sam Mitchell, and yes, KG. But 95% of what KAT is today existed before putting on a Wolves uniform.

I'm in the middle of reading "Boys Among Men" about the guys who went straight from high school to the pros. What's abundantly clear (and stated many times)... as if it wasn't already super duper clear... is that either you have a drive to succeed or you don't.
Towns didn't just develop that drive to improve or unearth some hidden talent just by having Garnett sit behind him during some games. I get why having Garnett around is fun. He's wise and cagey. And he's an icon. And the team has plenty of cap room for him.
But it is a disservice to Towns to give Garnett's tutelage more than a passing mention. Towns was going to excel whether he had Garnett swearing in his ear or Boogie Cousins breathing down his neck.

Agree Abe. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to have KG around - there is absolutely some value to having a guy that role models and reinforces the type of work ethic and competitive edge required to succeed in the NBA. But let's not fool ourselves into giving it more than, as you said, a passing mention, when it comes to true greatness. And again, when was the last time we saw KG wear a uniform? He can sit in the exact same seat and wear the exact same clothes as a Special Assistant in charge of the bigs next season. Nothing changes except for an open roster spot and more cap room.

Agreed with all that Abe and Q have said here.
Re: KG's last game?
KAT's dad was really doing a disservice to him when he said being on the same team as KG is the best thing that ever happened to him. How could he not just make a passing mention of KG? What a dick.

Re: KG's last game?
List of people who have said KG's impact has been significant and not just a passing mention:
1. KAT
2. KAT's dad
3. Wiggins
4. Rubio
5. The coaches and management
etc.etc
What is wrong with agreeing with them? It isn't doing a disservice to anyone. Every great player talks about their key relationships with veterans when they first came into the league. Getting KG was one of the very smart things Flip did.
