He is already a very good inside-out player. He will eventually be an absolute monster offensively. Think Kevin Love circa 2013-14 where he killed other teams with a combination of post ups, 3-point shooting, and free throws. Obviously Towns is on a different level defensively, but offensively, that's where I think he's headed. I only use Kevin Love as an example because I can't think of another Center that displays a similar set of low post and perimeter shooting skills.
Great analysis, Q. Your comparison to Love on the offensive end is spot on.
I think kurrdog's comp between Duncan and KG is interesting too. He has more of a Duncan low post game but he also has a lot of guard skills similar to KG. Towns is some sort of combination of those 2 guys with range of Love. Insane. I don't know if he will ever be quite the quick trigger 3 point shooter Love was but he is much longer he doesn't need to do that and he has a higher ceiling as a post threat. On defense he looks to be a guy that could be everything you could possibly want.
CRAZY even Abe and Q are gushing about this guy.
Well, the numbers don't lie. And it's nearly impossible to cherry-pick a stat to support an opposing view about KAT because they all say a similar thing: He's really good.
With others I've been harsh on, it's because there is substantive data that points to real issues in either production and/or efficiency.
Hopefully people remember my gushing about KAT the next time I criticize some other young Woofie!
Is this an admission that u cherry pick stats? :)
Heh, well we all do at times, don't we? But some are more valid than others in my opinion. So when you and I argue about Rubio and I say the team always performs dramatically better with him on the court versus off the court, then you come back and say he's horrible because he can't shoot over 40%, I would argue one measurement carries more weight than the other.
As for Towns, it's really hard to come up with ANY stat - without really getting into minutia - that makes him look bad.
(I don't want to start a Rubio fight, just using that as an example!)

Having watched him up close and personal in Vegas, I'm frankly stunned at how good he has been. I thought he would show flashes of brilliance his rookie year, but be physically overmatched or in foul trouble many nights. Wrong! He doesn't play like a 19-year-old. He brings intensity, physicality, smarts and skills every night. in terms of scoring, his 15-footer is money, he can put the ball on the floor, he can hook with either hand, and his 3-point shooting is still untapped...he is a 22 PPG player waiting to happen. His rebounding has been consistently good, and his defense has been both steady and sensational. And we haven't yet seen what a good passer he is going to be. Sorry to gush, but this is one exceptional rookie.
I only see him improving to be at least as good as K. Love on offense. And then where Love is a liability on D, Towns is a huge plus. It's gonna be a fun rookie of the year race. Towns, Okafor, Mudiay, Porzingas all look amazing right out of the gate. Russell, meanwhile, meh. He's probably not that crazy about playing in LA right about now.
Fondey, I agree that Okafor could push KAT for ROY (he's scoring more, but KAT leads in every other offensive and defensive category), but I have not been impressed with Mudiay or Porzingis...maybe they'll be good down the road, but they are both struggling like rookies now. Porzingis is only shooting 38% (22% on threes), and Mudiay is only shooting 33% and turning the ball over 5 times a game. I see it as a two man race. and I think KAT is definitely the guy to beat.
KAT looks to be doing it on a team that's projects to be at least moderately competitive and Okafor is playing on one of the worst rosters in the entire league. Some voters will take that into account. His rebounding and blocks are going to register high too. KAT has some things going for him right now that give him some advantages over the sheer volume Okafor will get. Of course ROY is a joke award anyway in the scheme of anything and based on what I have seen its more interesting to think of Towns can win an MVP in a few years. :)

The quality of young bigs in the league now is awesome. They are everywhere and have such unique skillsets. It seemed like we were at a loss for a while as Duncan and KG were aging but there are quality bigs everywhere. There are going to be some great battles and it will be a necessity for teams to have skilled size. I love where we're at in that mix.

Yes , yes we do. Getting someone to admit it is a whole other story. Ha

One thing I noticed on a lot of KAT's blocks, is that he is so fast to go back up on a second elevation if he bites on a pump fake. He is elevating a second time almost before the shooter is after a the pump. He is so long, that he recovers almost instantly, and his blocks many times are coming from behind. Just awesome to watch.

Cousins is not happy in Sac again. Now is a good time to trade KAT for Cousins, it's a real chance.
just kidding, haha,

i think ROY will be really interesting race, KAT is definitely front runner and if he keeps this pace there should be no question .. i actually think that the most dangerous guy to beat him is Porzingis, if his jumpers start to go in (as they should because they look so good), he could put up some sick numbers in MSG, so everybody will see that

Towns 19. Wiggins 20. There has never been a better time to be a Wolves fan.

Well, may be that year we made a run to the WCF. I think that was a good time to be a Wolves fan because we actually experienced playoff success.
I would also say for those of us that grew up as b-ball fans without a pro team in Minnesota (and the Lakers don't count LST since most of us weren't even born before they moved out!) that the first year or so of T-Wolves basketball was pretty exciting. I remember going to some of those games in the early days and watching Larry Bird when Boston came to town, who was my basketball hero at the time.
And we were close to building a pretty darn good team in the 2012-2014 range, but injuries, poor bench play, and Love's eventual disenfranchisement sort of blew that up.
But yeah.....In terms of "hope and change" type of feelings about the future, it's hard not to be excited.
