4. Pek - Just because of his injury issues and contract I think we can reorient around our star big that is coming in the draft.
Disagree. I''d hold on to all of them except maybe Mo. This team with those vets could be a playoff team once you add in the 2015 lottery pick.
We would be a borderline playoff team. We could be a much better equipped playoff team with better talent/value getting rid of all of these vets. All of them play under the value of their contracts.

Agree Doper. If Thad could accept a lesser role I wouldn't mind keeping him. But if we could deal Martin for something good that would be a win.

I can see us being a playoff team if they play Thad & Martin in the right roles. Martin off the bench and Thad backup 4 or maybe starting SF. Martin makes it harder to get Lavine minute at SG though and that's what I really want to see. Lavine & Rubio.

If Thad took his proper role we would be playing 9 mil for a bench player on a team that is at best a 7/8 seed. That makes no sense. If were a championship contender sure, but I can't see that even if we stay totally healthy.

If it makes us better, trade em, otherwise don't.
We only have a small window to trade Martin. Next year he is another year older. He is playing well right now. I have to believe someone would give us a good asset or two for him. Keep hearing Washington come up and that the Wolves are interested in Seraphin. Question: Who knows anything about Seraphin?

Thad would be a close 2nd. As Q said, Thad could be valuable for us in the future if he is willing to accept the best role for him. From all accounts he is a great guy so maybe he would entertain something like that. As I've said before, I'm not a Martin hater but he just doesn't have much value for us going forward. He's injury prone, not a 2 way player, and he can actually get us a decent asset. Mo probably doesn't have much of a market so it doesn't matter if he stays or goes.
Our leading scorer doesn't have any value to us? Please explain how that makes any sense. Who's just going to magically make up for the 20 PPG we would lose? Bud? Lavine? That's who would play his minutes if he was gone.
How much scoring is he doing for us when he misses his 20-30 games per year?
Those 20-30 games gives the guys you want to play more a chance to get their feet wet while having a backup plan in case they aren't ready aka Lavine this year. You want to hand the keys over to guys who just aren't ready for them yet. Also he only missed 14 games last year and had a freak injury this year breaking his wrist. He's actually played more than I think most expected when we got him. 6 million for 20 PPG, 40% 3 pt shooting and 60+ games is exactly what a rebuilding team could use. Someone to keep you competitive, but will have time off to let your young guys get their feet wet. You honestly want to throw Lavine and Bud out there for an extra combined 30 MPG's when they both have been bad this year?
WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE THIS YEAR? AND NEXT YEAR HE IS GOING TO BE 33 YEARS OLD. And yes I honestly want to throw Zach out there for as many minutes as he can get.
It's a 20 PPG difference this year. Zach sucks this year and needs to be benched. He's honestly been one of the worst rotation players in the league this year. He needs to be in the D League. We were one of the worst teams of all time with no Ricky, Martin and Pek. How about we be competitive the rest of the year and have something to build on going into next year rather than sacrifice the rest of the year for more ping pong balls and confidence shattering poor play? If Zach had shown signs of improvement I'd say go with Zach, but he has just been inconsistent and bad most of the year. He's just not ready.

I think you are right but it really depends on what "better" means. Better long term or better year to year? If vets are getting in the way of youngsters without a clear mentorship role (which seems to be the Martin/Lavine conundrum you cite), and we are not contenders, then why overpay them? We can trade all of our vets and be better over the long term if we make good signings to replace them.

When you say it's a 20 PPG difference this year, are you talking about the points he scores or the ones he gives up? IMO you really don't have a good handle on this one Khans. I've never heard of an 11-40 team having to make sure that their 32 year old, oft injured journeyman wing get as much run as possible. It just doesn't make any sense to me, and I believe you will see him traded soon. That's all I have to say on this topic for now.

If Flip could flip Bud for a bag of unsalted peanuts right now he would be in BB genius camp! No hate on Bud, those knee injuries have done him in.
